I'll be porting my number over from T-Mobile, so I'm already anticipating a long wait. Can someone tell me if I can still play with the phone while I wait (get on wi-fi, etc)? Or is it completely dead until I activate with AT&T?

Mine was semi-fast yesterday. I called at about 4:00 to switch our plan and activate the phones. The rep said that she wasn't allowed to activate the 4 until today becuase of the official launch. She took down all of my info asked me to call back today to confirm and all my info would be there. About 10 minutes after I got off the phone, she called me back saying that they had just been given the go ahead to activate the 4s. So she called me to get mine activated. I thought that was awesome cusotmer service!

Transfered two Verizon numbers, set up new family account. Each phone in the Apple Store took about 30 seconds, once all the info was entered.

Very pleasant experience at South Hills in Pittsburgh. Well organized.

I had to restart the phone, but once I did it was activated by the time the phone came back up.

I got mine yesterday at around 2:00PM, activation was not problem and data carried over without a hitch. I'd say it took around 20 for everything, then time loading up with music.

i didn't even get my iPhone yet my delivery was delayed and then i missed the delivery yesterday night (by ******* 7min) and now its been on the truck since 8 this morning but it hasn't been delivered even tho a fedx truck passed my house. the tracking says it should be here by 4:30 so lets see

I waited for like an hour, but then I just restarted my phone and it connected right away.

I tried to activate mine last night online. Seemed like everything went ok. My old phone was disabled but still no service on my new phone. Waited two hours last night and it never came up. Turned it off for an hour and still nothing. Called AT&T and was on hold for one hour before giving up. This morning it still doesn't work and I'm now at a half hour hold time with AT&T. Lunch will be over soon,

Waited 3 mins in the store and it didn't activate but when the apple employee connected to the laptop it said already activated. I told him to just reboot it and he said that will cause it to fail. i told him it was my phone and i wanted to leave after waiting 6 hours for a pre-order. I rebooted it any sure enough it came right up.

Activation using the 800 number took 7 minutes including waiting 5 minutes after I hung up. I was upgrading from a 3G.

I waited about 10 minutes for iTunes and gave up. Called the ATT number and it took less than 4-5 minutes, total.

Took about an hour. I didn't notice it was activated until I noticed that my old phone was unactivated. Then I rebooted the new one and it was live.

Got error message from AT&T ... said they couldn't activate because I had an order pending (?!). I've been on the phone for about a half hour trying to figure it out ...

I got that as well when I tried to activate online. I just went ahead and called the number for activation and it worked just fine.

Just went through iTunes and activated mine.
It was saying "waiting on activation" for a bit so I took my SIM out and put it back in and it connected right away. Working 100% with no problems, now.
