So, I've been thinking. Arn and others won't be around forever (sorry to break it to you :p), what will happen when he decides to 'retire', will other Administrators be decided? Will that decided mod get all the equipment?

Just thinking long term here, not in the next few years.

How much longer do you have Arn?

This site is managed so well, it would be very hard to find somebody as dedicated as Arn is...:(

DoFoT9

Macrumors is a business. If Arn decided to retire, it would (most likely) be put up for sale just like any other business when the owner retires and his kids don't want to take it over.

good point, would have to be up to standard though.. imagine if Arn let the users decide in a poll :p

I'm sure MacRumors is here to stay. One day arn will sell it for a DuckTales amount of money.

im not sure what his job would pay, that seems a bit to personal to be asking haha (and age isnt you might say )

I believe that i have read somewhere (please correct me if i am wrong) that macrumors generates in excess of 6 figures a year. It was obviously lucrative enough that arn could quit being a medical practitioner...

hey guys,

Thanks for the concerns. Yes, the site runs very well right now with the help of Eric (wild cowboy) who does the majority of the writing these days and Doc Q + mods who handle the forums. I think the site runs very well because of the high quality of those individuals and mods that we have.

The site is far less dependent on me for day-to-day operations than it was just a year ago -- and that's a very good thing. Both for me and for the longevity of the site.

I expect MacRumors will be around as long as there is an audience for it. I've received some occasional contacts about selling it, but it's not the right time. I actually have neglected the site more than I wanted to this past year due to some other projects, but am hoping to focus more time on it as my time frees up a bit.

I'm surprised all these guys assume you're old (maybe because you're a doctor, and they just visualize you being old and cranky :) ). I would've told them to google you, but that seemed ridiculous to some of the ones that were posting, since they've been here awhile and should know better. Anyway, I doubt you're going anywhere for a long time, unless you just get a really good offer that you can't refuse. I joked that you were about as old as Geohot, but that's probably not so far from the truth. The younger generation sure is lucky to be growing up with all this computer stuff, that's for sure.

Edit: Please don't double post! It was just hanging there....lol! :)

yeah i think new features to the site will be a really good thing. I would definitely be interested in more of a social aspect to the site (not the traditional type of social internet thing...we already have plenty of that)..but like easier ways to see what people do for a living, what they are good in, what talents they can bring to certain independent projects etc).

and why have chatrooms fallen in popularity as time goes on? too much spam and robots? i would be interested in like a series of closed-knit chatrooms (say limited to 10-15 people that can talk about current apple issues).

I have been in sites like this one that have died just because the main pourpuse has disapeared and not because of lack of administrator.

Many things can contribute to MR disapereance and Arn is not one of them.

But this place will go one for many years.

In my opinion, what can bring MR down is the death of Jobs and the later performance of Apple as a regular computer manofacture company.

When Jobs die Apple will need to keep the charisma and the creativity and that is what keeping the Apple spirit alive and this web site.

There have been times when Apple have been lack of creativity or when Jobs was absent and this other guy was taking his place for a while... Apple fans were not visting and the web site was boring. I have seen periods of inactivity like that here.

smart-arse :p

and if the world ends today in australia, at least you have a day or so before its tomorrow to say goodbye :p

its 10am here :D:D

Maybe we can wait for a time traveler from the future and ask them if MR is still around. :p

Even better, ask them if the Apple tablet is out! :D

good points, i had never thought about that side of the equation. nice thinking

Time travel is too confusing ...

ironic how Tomorrow only has one post in that thread (which is the original post) that shows up in his "All Posts" in the profile section ;)

that had me tripping for a while though, who did it?

thought  funny how you also had one recorded post in there aswell.. all demi-gods to lol.

hilarious read though..

MRChat is still in "live" mode, i cannot get in because of that, is MRChat dead?

One recorded post? How are you getting this info?
i have ways of time travelling too  its a trick named "go to the users profile then click on their posts and sift through them until you find the correct thread that shows this information". i looked at your posts around that date, and you only have one post in that thread. so i call a bluff

you dont know MRChat!!!!:confused: its an app like ICQ for MR users!! but we currently cannot chat because its been disabled for the LiveEvents and probably hasnt been changed. can you fix it?
