4GB (2x2GB) is now $124 at OWC!

That's up $15 since this thread started!

I think I'm going to pull the trigger and get another 4GB. That'll put me at 14GB, with all 8 slots full.

Is there anywhere else besides OWC that sells 2008 MP RAM sticks with adequate heat spreaders?

Crucial, transintl and a few others do as well. But I'm willing to bet that prices are trending the same at every reseller.

Not sure why folks are asking this..

I bought my iRam from NewEgg for my Late 08 MP in March for $79 for 4GB (2X2) and now the same part is $99.

Not sure its really dropping or changing that much.

I've been checking out prices, and eh. I feel like it's probably best to just stick to OWC. I do have a certain degree of reseller loyalty to them since they've always been great to deal with and I've never heard a bad word about them.

I'm actually leaning toward this now (2x4GB) for $217:

They have very good reviews and only do Mac memory. I love OWC, but the prices are a bit high now...

Also (2x2GB) for $99:

ALSO check out this notice I just found that OWC sent out regarding RAM. Looks like now (or a month or two ago) is the time to buy:

Ram Prices

As the user name implies, I work for Kingston. Prices on DDR2 products (the main stream memory right now) are going up. I've seen prices and Kingston's costs increase on weekly basis for some time now. It is all about supply and demand so it's hard to know where the market will go long term.

Yeah, this is not just the ever falling US dollar in action either although I guess that contributes too. Here's what it looks like for the japanese market:

Where the graph is essentially going from $90 to $130. Although traditionally more expensive modules seem to have remained about the same:

I'm waiting for the 24GB kit on OWC to come down. Once it hits $900, I think I can hit the hammer. Until them I'll just have to live with my 4GB swap sizes.

Has anyone used Small Dog RAM modules? Any opinions? Their prices are quite a bit lower right now ($50/2GB vs. $75+/2GB at most others) and I'm wondering if the quality is up to snuff. Just for fun I called TekServe in NYC and they want $250/2GB!!

The RAM I'm looking at is this:

Any reviews or thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!

I've never used them, but the specs match, as it's sold as Mac compatible memory. I took a look at resellerratings.com, and they've an 8.87/10 Lifetime rating. Rather decent for an online retailer.

Warranty is listed at 10 years rather than lifetime, but presume that's not much, if an issue at all.

Well I placed an order for 2 x 2GB modules. If this RAM is good it's definitely the best deal that I could find - $98 for 4GB of 800mhz Mac Pro RAM. I called Small Dog and they said they source the RAM from some memory company in Vermont and it comes with a 10-year guarantee. I'm crossing my fingers!

Good luck with it, and please post your results with it.

Posts on good, low cost memory suppliers are always welcome. :D

On the standard DDR2/DDR3 side the prices of DDR2 are now longer bargain basement. DDR2 can be found for a few dollars more than DDR3 in some cases.

I know.

The Areca cards I like (expandable cache via DIMM slot) run DDR2-533 ECC (UDIMM's or RDIMM's). The UDIMM's have gotten rather expensive. To the point that the RDIMM's may actually be cheaper now  (the high costs have been this way for ~6 months IIRC). Sucks. :(

Yeah, will do. I'm from Vermont originally so I'm kind of rooting for this to be good - but if it's not they seem like a reputable outfit that will make things right. Should get it next week, will update... :)
