I've had every Apple Watch since launch. That said, I can't ever imagine a need to swap this one out. It's a keeper - pure and simple.

How long will I keep this, well I plan to pay for a battery replacement when it’s wearing out. However a lot depends on what new sensors the newer Ultra watches come out with. I had planned to keep my stainless steel 7 and replace batteries but the Ultra has thrown that plan in the bin.

I think there’s only a few things that would convince me to upgrade (that I can think of). First would be a slimmer and slightly smaller version of the Ultra. Second would be week-long battery life. Third would possibly be a HR sensor that takes readings every second 24/7.

There’s not much else I care about from a sensors perspective. Glucose monitoring isn’t important for me. I don’t really care about blood pressure monitoring (and I don’t think smartwatches are very close to being effective at monitoring this anyway).

A lot of the things I still want would be software improvements/additions from Apple: recovery metrics, personal records, more dynamic activity goals/suggestions, sleep score. I really want to see Apple do more to put meaning/context to the data the Apple Watch collects and stop giving the same goals every single day to people.

Probably gonna be my last Apple watch in a while. Just got into automatics and saving up for an Omega Speedmaster and a Junghans. Maybe gonna get it later when I get old and need the fall detection and stuff.

Four years for the Ultra, just like the 4 years I kept my AWSS4. It will be a while for a substantial upgrade to the Ultra. The leap from the AW4 to the Ultra was huge, all other editions from the AW4 were mostly incremental.

I wear my Ultra 24/7. Well, minus 1 hour a day for charging lol. I absolutely love this impressive piece of engineering feat. Also, wearing the Ultra during sleep in bed feels very comfortable. If there’s going to be an upgrade in 2023 I’m definitely going to consider buying it and selling my first gen. Very excited about the Ultra still!

At least two years depending on what upgrades it will get. I had planned to keep my S5 two more years when the Ultra came out. Hopefully I’ll keep the Ultra for three to four years.

Kind of expensive for a disposable watch. $18 shy of $1000, with AppleCare and California sales tax

Why would you buy Apple Care? These things don't break, get damaged at a rate of 1 out of every 8. I don't know the actual numbers but I guarantee you it's much less than that.

Regarding the OP, most of the time I just trade the old one in and recycle to the latest version each year. I've also sold them over EBay and to a 3rd party.

Thing is, resale on these things in the toilet. There's too many of them and the annual upgrades just aren't offering anything worth upgrading to, so really, a 6 isn't much different from an 8 for most people.

If Apple didn't offer the Ultra this year I'd be wearing my Garmin Epix 2. It's a good watch, better than an AW8, but the Ultra closed the gap and I finally found an affordable provider for cell service, so an Ultra it is.

I (almost) never buy AppleCare. It seems you missed the point (that it is kind of expensive (IMO) to regard as essentially disposable, as the poster I was responded to had implied (not said))

That isn't how you bet. You bet the likelihood of breakage X the cost of fixing vs the cost of insuring.

I always buy the Apple Care. May be a waste of money, but it gives me peace of mind.

I'll be keeping mine for as long as there is a new biometric feature that I feel is worth the upgrade.

I plan to keep mine beyond 2 years. I’m going to switch to monthly AppleCare+ after the 2 years are up and keep my ultra for 4 years.

I thought I was going to keep my AW7 longer than I did ... but the Ultra caught my eye and I figured why not!

I really like this watch and unless something a lot better comes along, at least 2 years. Somehow I accidentally got 2 year AppleCare+ so ... like StaceyMJ86 - I'll probably switch to monthly and try to keep it longer.
