Ugh. I hate the "multi-tasking" The quicklaunch bar is completely pointless. Its supposed to make it easy to switch between apps. If I have every app I have used on the bar, why is that any different than just going to the homescreen? How is that easier?

Because they're in order of most recently used. If you don't have pages and pages of applications it probably won't be too useful. I fit everything on one page with three folders and I hardly use the quick launch bar, but I do sometimes to control Pandora, or if I'm copying and pasting more than one thing between Safari and Mail.

I have two pages of apps. The quicklaunch is absolutely useless and just gets in the way.

There's four apps on the bar at the time, with the first bar being the most recent apps. It's like a 'Open Recent Document' on a word processor or 'Open Recently Closed' option on a browser. How is that pointless? If you're switching to an app you used several hours ago, it's probably going to take several swipes through the task-switch bar (and going back to homescreen might be easier). But if you're switching between two programs, it's double click home and tap the program.

So we don't need to shut down all those task bar items? I keep thinking of the old iPAQs where programs that stayed open quickly drained the battery.

I guess you missed the part where I said "pages and pages." I actually like the recently used bar; I use it and I only have one page of applications.

No. It's been discussed here countless times and is well documented on Apple's site. No, you do not need to quit applications in the recently used bar, they're not using any resources and will not affect battery life.

Because in normal usage people will flip between a couple/few apps. This means the most recent 2 to 3 apps. So this allows you to go back and forth between 2 or 3 apps very quickly to get work done.

You don't have to use it. It is just useful if you are reading a web page and then want to go check something in a pdf and then update a document. You can switch quickly between those three things without losing your place or having to go back and find the apps to relaunch them.

You are not required to use it to open apps.
