Buying mine outright for the first time. Looking forward to not having to worry about contracts or leases. I'm going to be using my Discover since you can get the 5% cash back deal and I'm still within my first year of double cash back. So I'll be getting 10% cash back on my purchase :)

Was going to do iPhone Upgrade Program this year but after seeing how you can't even get a phone on the correct months with this program due to limited stock.. I'm just repeating what I did last year. Bought it outright and I will consider selling my 6S or passing it on to a family member.

I am sorting that out. Looking at the monthly upgrade program, the iPhone 7 128 is $35.68/mo. That's $856.32 over 24 months. Subtract $129 for AppleCare+ and that leaves a cost of 727.32. The outright purchase price is $749. It appears to be cheaper to do the installments on the upgrade program, if AppleCare+ is desirable. I suppose the catch is that it will be hard to NOT upgrade next year and return the phone and reset the payments for 24 months.

The base monthly plan without AppleCare+ and not part of the upgrade program comes out to $748.80 over 24 months for the same phone. Apparently the program is zero interest rate.

Then your math is wrong. The upgrade program is the total cost of the purchase divided by 24. No interest. It does include Applecare.

I bought outright from ATT. No Upgrade fee.

I intended to just pay it off all at once, then while entering decided that since the Verizon phone is GSM unlocked anyway, there was not really any downside to payments if travel internationally and want to use a local SIM. If I decide to leave Verizon I can just pay it off.

Of course, 3 months down the road I may just decide to pay it off anyway :)

So I payed in full preordering the Verizon A1661 7+ model ( Jet black, delivers 1-2 weeks), the specs on this iPhone look to cover most CDMA AND GSM bands. I don't see how SIM free version will perform better.
That is the same phone. If you tell them Verizon it just has their SIM in it.
