Owning a late '13 MBP, and absolutely loving it, when the first ones with that keyboard came out I wanted to try them to see how its potential replacement would be, and I was in horror. No way that thing could replace my precious. I'm glad it's still livin' and rockin'.
That said, when I'm home I use it with a mechanical keyboard and a monitor, and when I used it to work I also brought my own keyboard to the office if possible. As a result, my MBP still looks almost new, so I don't think I should have been worried about durability. But I guess I'll never find out now :D

I’ve used two butterfly Macs personally, a 15” 2016 and 2018 models. I really liked the keyboard. Now I’m on the 16”. The keyboard feels virtually identical to the butterfly one, maybe a bit more comfortable, but it occasionally misses keystrokes for me. All in all, I liked all Mac keyboards I’ve used so far. Butterfly is probably my favorite one (by a very slight margin).

You encourage me because I am upgrading my Mac to the 2019 MBP.

Three for me:

- 2015 12 inch MB
- 2017 12 inch MB
- 2018 13 inch MBP

I have not had any reliability issues beyond a key sometimes getting mushy, but nor have I ever become used to the lack of key travel. If I want to do serious typing I either wait to be at my desk or get out the 2015 13 inch MBP (that I had intended to sell but could not bring myself to).

Touch bar proved itself to be horrible too (for me at least), so I would say that the 2017 12 inch MB has been the least worst of the butterfly keyboards I have had.

Owned a 2015 MacBook 12" for which I used mostly for university. Then my mom needed one for herself so I ended up giving it to her and buying a 2016 max'd 12" on the used market. Now I'm selling it to someone else and have a 2020 13" 10th-gen on order.

For me personally, the butterfly keyboard has been fine in terms of reliability and I actually prefer the feel. That said, some new projects have required something with more performance and so I've been patiently waiting for the new 13" Pro. I still like the scissor keyboards from Apple (own a wireless Magic Keyboard), so having it now will at least be some peace of mind.

My wife and I have 2017 MBPs TB - my wife uses hers daily (and has for several years now) for her PhD - I used mine mostly in clamshell mode. No problems.

My sister has a 2019 MBA - less than 6 months into using she now has repeating keys.

Went through about 5 or 6 late 2016 MBPs on initial purchase looking for one without a stuck key. A lot of them had sticky arrow keys. The speakers also blew when I installed Windows on Boot Camp (anyone remember that fun little bug?). Then I changed my mind on color and swapped silver for space grey. Finally stabilized with a model which ended up getting replaced bc of another stuck key about a year ago. Nice that they give you an entire top case replacement when you have a keyboard issue, but obviously there shouldn't have been so many keyboard issues to begin with.

Only one (mid 2017 13" MBP), but it's had two keyboard replacements and needs a third. I'm going to be so relieved when I can replace this thing.

2017 Macbook, never had the keyboard replaced, prefer the older/magic keyboards to it (but don't hate it), and a few keys have started to stick now after 3 years.

Also got a 2019 13" Pro with 3rd Gen butterfly, now that keyboard i absolutely love the feel of and prefer it to the magic keyboards, and i'm sure if the keyboards had felt like the 3rd gen when they first went butterfly the backlash would not have happened, but its too late now, they are tarnished. I also have no idea if the 3rd gen has fixed the reliability issues or not.

Luckily just the one 2018 13" Macbook Pro. The keyboard failed and I had it replaced once under warranty so far.

Still rocking mid-2012 unibody 13" MacBook Pro i7 16GB RAM
Lack of upgradability deterred me from getting the tb2 retinas, and then butterfly keyboard deterred me from getting the tb3 retinas.

I have considered going to a 2015 15" Retina i7 16GB R9 every now and then until the 16" was announced, however as I'm still okay with my unibody, I might wait until the next revision.

I have owned two; 2018 MBP and 2019 MBA.. and I haven't had any issues with either of them.

Exactly one, and I'm typing on it right now, a 2018 15" MPB. I do nothing special with it, I take no extra precautions. It just works, and it always has.

curious

my vote is 2: first was 2015 12" MB, second was 2016 13" NTB

2015 MacBook
2016 MacBook
2017 MacBook (2 - I upgraded to the 16 GB model)
2019 MacBook Pro

I still have my 2nd 2017 MacBook and will likely hold onto it for a while, unless Apple reintroduces it when they switch to ARM. It’s a great travel Mac (for when we get back to traveling)

1 technically as my wife killed a MBP and needed a replacement so got her a 2019 MBA for Xmas. Already told her the keyboard is likely to die, but at least it's the 'latest' (bad) keyboard variant.

None for me. Not just the keyboard, as except when I'm traveling, my MBP at home office and work office is generally sitting on a stand plugged into a 38" UW display at home, or 2x 27" at work + external KB and trackballs in both locations.

The combination of touch bar w/out physical escape key, lack of a 32GB RAM option, mediocre CPU upgrades (partially on Intel) had me choosing between a new 2016 MBP and instead I bought a lightly used 2015MBP. The subsequent years had nothing I wanted to give Apple $ for until the MPB 16 which I'm typing on now, with my gripes vs the prior years all removed finally.

Watching my wife's MBA carefully, but she's at least better at not eating at her desk, unlike me..maybe it'll help.. :D
The 3rd generation isn’t bad. I actually didn’t mind the butterfly keyboard and find that it took a little while to get used to the “Magic” keyboard.

I have a 2016 13 with a buttery keyboard. Only one I’ve ever owned so far

2018 13 inch MBP that I use for work and type on for hours on end. Not a problem. That said, I'm always looking for any excuse to buy a new MacBook, so . . .

Bought the 2017 version right after release, also because they said: improved butterfly keyboard.
What a joke! Had it in for KB replacement twice, each process taking more than a month (had to send it in to AASP)... Considered keeping it just to see it fail a third time...
