iPod touch How many defective iPod Touch units have you gone through?

so what have we learned here?

obviously this poll result is a very small sample, and people with problems might be more likely to vote. but still, we are looking at an unusually high percentage of problems.

i am convinced that the earlier units are plagued with defects. if you are getting a replacement, try to get a later serial number.

5)When syncing, It only puts on the new stuff, but takes everything else off.

All iPod touch units are defective

The obsequious Apple followers will say they have perfect units just like parents refer to their own children. I went through 6 units at Best Buy and my brother (hardware/software computer engineer) went through 4. I will admit that the technology is awesome and I am personally considering settling for one but unfortunately the quality is horrible. All units if they are objectively inspected reveal dead/stuck/hot or "glittery" pixel issues. Audio is ok but not as good as the Zune or others. DVDs appear blocky and pixilated. If your expectations are low or if you are a follower of the Reverend Steve Jobs this product will be flawless. The technology is amazing and revolutionary; however, the quality control is truly sad.

Sorry to hear about the problems some people encountered. My week 38 unit is absolutely perfect.

DVDs appear blocky and pixilated.

Now this one's definitely not the iPod touch's fault. How about re-ripping the film?

none, just bought it a couple weeks ago. It does have a dead pixel or 2 but with the new theme I have on it, I don't even see it anymore, plus dead pixels don't really bother me much like some it does to some of you guys. Only would have a problem if I have numerous amounts on the screen.

I HATE THIS GENIUS AT THE APPLE STORE!!!!!!
so I brought in my fith one today and the genius (or in this case the dumb ass)was being all bitchy with me about all the replacements I have had and in all the calls I have made to AppleCare no one said that it would be replaced when every one that I talked to said that when I brought it in they would replace it. He even said this to me (I am a kid so,this is different from another person older than me) "listen kid,we don't give away free iPods to people who say that something is wrong but we look at it and nothing is wrong so go home, we won't help you" god I hate this man, he was also doing the same thing to the person in front of me . You know that apple employees are suppose to be the nicest well,apple if you are listing FIRE THIS PERSON AT THE APPLE STORE IN OLD ORCHARD!!!!!! Yeah, it sucks
Apple might help you if you hacked it depending on who helps you (if you have the same person I had the odds are he will call the cops lol) but they will not replace it or anything.

just restore it before you go back. they will never know.

and i'll say it again - if you truly have a defective item, insist on a new retail box. do not settle for an early serial number white box pseudo-refurb replacement.

For my first four exchanges I swapped only the device. I kept all of my accessories. This is because when you get a "refurb," it comes in a plain white box.

When I finally demanded a new retail box, they needed my original box with all the accessories. I had them all, but I forgot my USB cable, so the manager opened the new box and took out the cable (I had no problem with this).

I'm on my 8th iPod Touch. These were the problems with the previous seven:

1) Fingerprints on the outside of the box
2) The store clerk looked shifty and had a mole
3) The protection plastic on the back wasn't perfectly aligned
4) Nothing, just a bad hair day
5) One page in the manual had a folded corner
6) The clock wasn't set for my timezone
7) I'm superstitious about the number 7

Just kidding. I'm on my first iP Touch, week 40, and it's flawless.

i didn't need any papers or original receipt. my original purchase was at best buy and the apple store had no problem with the exchanges. they just scan in the serial number.
