Thinking of getting a second watch to wear for sleeping. I could charge and use my SS one, but I really just want an aluminum with no cellular or anything (want it as light as possible).

Could I use it for sleep tracking, and also have my morning alarms set?

yes

they'll stay in sync, all you have to do is swap to the other watch, and enter your passcode, then that watch will become active. It may take a moment for activity info to catch up on the new watch, but it will get there eventually.

not sure if you set an alarm on watch #1, that it will go off on watch #2.
BUT.... if you set the alarm on your phone, then whichever watch is active will vibrate and ring, so it won't matter which watch you're wearing.

I charge my watch when I wake up in the Am , it takes about 15 min. At night my big charge is set for 8:30pm. The watch is usually at between 75 to 65%. It takes about 35-45 minutes to reach 100%.

of course it's your money and you can do whatever, but, I personally would not spend money on a 2nd AW just for sleep tracking. Having said that, I actually have 3 AWs, I wear my Ultra 2 for ~ 38hrs continuously (incl sleep) and then put it on the charger and wear my S7 Ti for sleep tracking ... I upgraded and did not want to ell/trade-in my older AWs due to poor trade-in value.
It sounds like the SS is too heavy for you during sleep, I can appreciate that.
Rather than getting an AW you might want to look at something like an Oura ring for sleep tracking, there have been posts on here about those though I have no personal experience nor do I endorse them, but afaik they are <$100.
If you really want an AW, a SE should be sufficient for just sleep tracking and I'd go for just the best deal

You could always just get a second watch for other reasons besides sleep tracking, find different uses for another watch. I have 5 watches and have different uses for each, I do have one watch that I use for sleep tracking, I also wear the same watch if I’m doing something wear I wouldn’t want to take a chance in damaging my other watches.
Like jz0309 said maybe a used SE would be worth it, I see many refurbs on Amazon for pretty good deals.

I use my series 7 SBTi just for sleep. Ultra 2 for daytime use. The SBTi still shows 100% battery capacity.

I’m the same - use one watch and charge it in the morning when I’m having my coffee.

Ultra 2 for day, S7 graphite with a comfy Nike woven strap for night/sleep tracking.

The Ultra charges in no time so would happily use just one watch but find it too bulky to sleep in.

I have a 2nd watch for the shower, while my Ultra 2 is charging.

It is my old Series 6. I really don’t care if it dies, but it seems to be doing fine still despite using it in the shower everyday.

In 2 years now of wearing the 7 to bed I have never had it die on me in the day after the morning brekkie charge...

Oura rings are excellent and I use one as well as my AW.

However, mine was £360 - I think it is the same in $$ too, so a lot more than <$100 :)

That said, the sleep tacking is a lot more accurate on the ring I find, and you wear it all day.

When I upgrade my Apple Watch model, I retain the previous model for use as a sleep watch. That means that, when Apple introduced new sleep tracking hardware, it takes that much longer for me to be able to take advantage of it (two upgrade cycles instead of one), but that’s not a huge issue for me.

I’m not sure I’d pay full price for a watch to use as a sleep watch, though. If I didn’t already have an older watch, I’d look at Apple’s refurbished store or buy a decent condition used Apple Watch on eBay (just make sure it’s a model that runs the latest watchOS). As long as the battery’s not swelling or cutting out immediately, battery health isn’t really an issue for a watch that you’ll just be using while sleeping (unless maybe you sleep exercise or something!),

My friend has an Oura, They recently went to a subscription model for more than basic info in the app.

They give you a 30 day free trial of the subscription, which coincides with the 30 day return window. So you don't get to see what you get for free, until it's too late to return the ring.

Oh, don’t know where I got that price idea but you’re correct, plus apparently a subscription, so nvm

Oh, that sounds pretty disingenuous. Maybe they’ve done the numbers and expect most of the users would use the ring with a subscription, but not being upfront with the free experience until after the return window ends means that they’re hiding the actual user experience of the ring (sans subscription) until you can no longer bail out.

I have a 8 for daytime and a 4 for sleeping. The 4’s battery is poor and 8hrs overnight can burn through 40-50% just wearing it.

I don’t charge either watch past 80% if I can help it. Wish I did that from the start with the 4.

Yup, exactly what I do. Only bit of hassle is when you need to update 2 watches. You need to leave the second watch alone whilst updating the first one. Only when it’s booting (ring filling up) should you touch or move the second watch, lest it takes over as the active watch pausing the update on the other. Always trips me up 😊

lol no. the battery life is good enough to last through the night.

i usually charge my S9 in the morning when i'm going for a shower and getting dressed. it charges super quick. also i usually only charge it to 80-90%

on the apple site it says up to 18 hours battery but i'm getting way more than that. i'm currently on ~31 hours since charging to 80% and i still have 37% battery left. i haven't disabled any major functionality. i guess i don't use it a lot. i do the odd workout but mostly just use it as a watch (crazy right?), as a timer when cooking, or skipping songs on spotfiy without having to use my airpods or lift my iphone off the bedside drawer, or as an extension of my iphone to get notifications of messages/emails and the odd call if i can't use my phone.

would be nice to have the kind of money to buy a dedicated watch though... not that i actually would buy another watch lol.
