Haha. Knock on wood, but I'm thinking that we're just seeing a vocal minority here, so I'm not too worried for when I purchase later this month. Watch me now get a screen that looks like a banana.

I wouldn't completely discard the possibility of a banana screen. Ha! :)

Same. I expect to get 4+ years out of my current, for my usage. In hindsight, I should have just stuck it out with my late 08 mbp and skipped the ones in between. I've had desktops all the while for crunchy stuff. My old 15" was slooow when I sold it, but was in excellent condition and still more than adequate for light usage.

For what I use it for, my new 15"/512gb/16gb/750m, is pretty overpowered tbh, but I was always getting a 512gb ssd, and 16gb ram so it'll really last. Meaning £100 more for a faster cpu and dGPU, it'd be silly not too.

The 13" rMBP finally ticks all the boxes and is my 'dream machine'. Power, portability, retina display, I couldn't be happier! It also has a smaller footprint than the 13" MBA. :)

2008 13 inch MacBook aluminum. Then sold that to get a 2010 15 inch MacBook Pro. Sold that to get a Mac mini, so I had to downgrade for awhile and bought a 2006 Black MacBook. And about a week ago I sold the mini and just got a 2013 15 inch MacBook Pro retina. It's been a fun ride so far!

4 MacBooks in total.

On the second one now.

1. 15-inch Early 2008 MBP 4GB/200GB HDD/8600M. The screen is broken but still runs pretty great. Connected to an external display and gave it to my Mom.

2. Current, 15-inch Haswell rMBP 16GB/512/750M. Absolutely loving the performance. As a test, I opened Applications folder and opened up every single app I have. Opened all of them in 10 seconds flat. Compare that to my 2008 MBP which has less applications that my rMBP, opens all of them in 4 minutes.

2 MacBook Pro's :D Now this thread makes me want to go buy a bunch of MacBooks so I can say I own at least 6 XD I think Ill stay on the very common 3-4 year upgrade path...man going from a 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo to a 2.4GHz Quad-Core i7 was like night a day! This thing rips through my video work, no more 14 hour render times, I went to render out an hour long video I had FINALLY finished and I set my rMBP next to me while I took a nap and it finished before I finished my nap! I was kind of disapointed because thats my unofficial timer ;):p:p

2006 13' White Macbook Pro
2012 15' Retina Macbook Pro
2013 13' Macbook Air

Don't plan on upgrading anytime soon, 2016 might be the earliest I'll be looking to upgrade.

13" Macbook (white) - 2009
15" Macbook Pro - 2010
13" Macbook Air - 2012
15" Macbook Pro Retina - 2013

I still own MBA and rMBP.

I have owned three macs in the last 10 years. The first macbook that i owned was the 17' Aluminum uni-body Powerbook G4 which I purchased in 2004. The second Mac that I purchased was a Mid-2010 in April, 2010 15.4' Macbook pro. The third Mac that i have purchased was today. Today I purchased a Late 2013 15.4 Macbook pro with Retina Display. With my new Retina Display Macbook Pro, I do not expect to buy a new Laptop for a good 4+ years, at least.

Just "MacBook", or also Pro?

I have owned (and still own) exactly one "MacBook" - the original black MacBook, fully loaded with 2.0 GHz CPU and 2 GB RAM (later upgraded with a 250 GB hard drive.) It was bought brand-new by a friend of mine on day of release, and I bought it from him a couple years later when he replaced it with a MacBook Air.

It is presently my home server, its ability to recognize a battery died a couple years ago.

I also have an original "ordered the day Apple let you order the first Intel Macs" MacBook Pro - 2.0 GHz CPU, 2 GB RAM, 100 GB 7200 RPM hard drive. It is my wife's primary computer now. (I don't carry a mobile computer any more, the iPhone is sufficient for most of my mobile computing needs, the 'family' iPad Air is sufficient for the rest.)

Edit: Well, retired the MacBook, see Marketplace. Built my daughter a lower-power Atom-based server to be her Minecraft server. And it doesn't drop out as often. Don't know if it's the CPU or just the text-only Linux needing less overhead than OS X.

I had a white iBook, and have been using an early 2011 MBP since release, which I upgraded to 16GB RAM and SSD.

My upgrades have me extremely worried about never being able to upgrade my next MacBook. Luckily I'm in no need of a new one. I just do simple web browsing, iTunes, Word docs, basic coding.

Not counting PPC, three, all of which I have bought from MR's Marketplace. No regrets so far.

Currently on my 2nd Macbook Pro: 13" Early 2013 retina, 256/8/i5

Previous was a 2010 cMBP 500/2/i3

Went back to Windows (Lenovo) for while in between the two... never again!

Next will be a 12" Retina Air, when it gets released... as long as they dont ruin it by turning it into a laptop/tablet hybrid

1. 13" MacBook White (2009)
2. 15" MacBook Pro (mid 2010) - 2.66 GHz Core i7, 4GB RAM, Hi Res Display
3. To be decided

Raptor

Bought my first MacBook, 15" Retina earlier this year and absolutely LOVE IT! Why I didn't buy one sooner I have no idea but will be sticking with it for a long time now! :)

Let's see...

15" Powerbook G4 (2003)
13" White MacBook (2008)
13" MacBook Pro (2009)
15" MacBook Pro (2011)
15" Retina MacBook Pro (2012)

Late 2007 black MacBook (still own it, and runs great - had my daughter use it for about 3 years, then bought her a MacBook Air this year)
Early 2008 17" MBP (sold)
Mid 2009 17" MBP
Early 2011 15" MBP (sold)
Mid 2011 13" MBA (sold)
Early 2013 15" MBP (sold)
Late 2013 13" MBP

12-inch iBook G4 - 2005
13-inch MacBook - 2007
15-inch MacBook Pro - 2009
13-inch MacBook Pro - 2011
13-inch MacBook Air - 2012
11-inch MacBook Air - 2013

So...6 in total or 5 if you don't count the iBook.

My first Apple laptop, which I bought in 2003, was a 17 inch Powerbook G4. I regard it as a Macbook in all respects but name. I replaced it in 2007 with a 17 inch Macbook Pro which was externally identical to the old Powerbook. In 2010 I got a 13 inch MBA, which was my primary computer until Monday of this week when I replaced it with a 13 inch MBPr. I guess you could say that I have liked Apple laptops for a long time. :)
