I have a 2017 1tb 27" Fusion drive iMac, a 2018 13" 8gb/512gb MacBook Pro, and a 12" 8gb/256gb MacBook. I am thinking about buying a 13" Air for work and leaving the expensive MacBooks at home. How many Macs do you own and what uses do you get out of each one?

Can you tell us what occasions you use each Mac for? Why leave MacBooks at home if you have an iMac? Not judging, just curious.

MacBook Pro 2018 15" (i7 2.6Ghz, 512GB, 16GB, 560X)
MacBook 12" 2016 (M3, 8GB, 256GB)
iMac 5K 2014 (i5 3.5Ghz, 16GB, R9 M290, 1TB Fusion Drive)

Just sold my retina MacBook Pro 2012 (15", i7 2.6Ghz, 8GB, 512GB, GT650M).

Using off the clock for personal projects and to keep my private stuff.

Work machine: 15” MBP 2017 - i7 2.8Ghz, 16GB LPDDR3, Radeon Pro 555 2GB, 512GB SSD.
Using at the office and when away on business.

iMac G4, iBook G4 12", MacBook Air (1st Gen), MacBook (1st Gen unibody), Mac mini (2011 late), MacBook 13" (2017 with Touch Bar), MacBook Pro 15" (2018), consider to purchase a new Mac Pro if updated this fall

Had a late 2014 iMac 5k that I felt needed an upgrade. Instead of buying a 13" MacBook or 12" MacBook as a companion for it I went all out and got the 2.6/16/512/560x that will be a complete desktop replacement and my portable travel machine. Sold the iMac and I'm happy with my decision.

I don’t own any :( hope to get my first Mac in a few months.

I’ve wanted one since 1995 after watching the martinettis bring home a computer -

All of them back to my 1999 portable running OS9, earlier ones have gone.

Since the question is worded in the present tense, I’ll answer it the same way: two. My 2018 13” MBP, and my 2016 15” MBP that is with Apple having the top case (and keyboard) replaced. I’ll sell the 15” once I get it back as I don’t need two laptops. I’ve owned other macs and Apple devices, but that’s not the question being asked.

Just one, 2017 13" MacBook Pro with Touchbar. I had to sell my two older MacBook Pros (2012 15" and 2014 13") and my Mac Mini that I had to buy this one, and it has totally been worth it!

I love how the main question and answers started as which Macs do you currently own, then everyone started listing Macs they have ever owned, finished off with someone just listing all the tech they currently own....

No wonder, sometimes we hear the joke, we had to sell two kidneys and a liver for the new MacBook Pro. :p

Coming to the question:

I have a Late 2011 MBP 15 (2.4/16GB/256GB/6770m) that is retired sort of, and the 2016 MBP 13" with Touch Bar (2.9/8GB/256GB/Intel 550).

Fluctuating between selling this 2016 for $1300 and pay for a 15" that would be more of a "real" upgrade in all respects to my Late 2011 MBP. The 13" ones in India cannot be configured with 16GB RAM.

I've had various Macs through the years, but right now the current residents of the household are:

2015 15" MBP (lives on a stand, used as a sort of "desktop"machine, with external keyboard and mouse)

2015 13" MBP (for a while this was the traveler that accompanied me on trips but now she mainly stays at home but still gets quite a bit of use, especially when the other one is busy transferring data between external drives and such.)

2017 12" MacBook (this is the one which travels with me now, and also is used in various other rooms of the house, and/or out on the deck from time to time, but primarily lives in the bedroom.)

All three have 512 GB SSD and 16 GB RAM. The 13" is now out of AppleCare coverage, and the 15" will be come December 2018.

I am thinking about getting one of the new 2018 MBPs, and if so it would probably be a 15". I would then sell or trade in one of the two 2015 MBPs, most likely the 13" one, which I'd actually intended to sell at the time I bought the 12" MB but just never got around to doing so.
