I love how the main question and answers started as which Macs do you currently own, then everyone started listing Macs they have ever owned, finished off with someone just listing all the tech they currently own....
I only listed the ones I currently own in my post. I’ve had many more that I don’t own anymore so they aren’t listed like a late 2013 15” MBP I just sold off about a month ago.

The Mac classic II I listed was purchased very recently at a very good price as I need to replace the capacitors which I will do when I have some free time.

2009 Mac mini (8gb, SSD)
2014 Mac mini (4gb, external SSD)
2017 MB Air (8gb, 128gb SSD)

oh, and I just got a Yamaha XV950 Bolt C spec ... lovely!

does not count here but I love it so much

1999 IBook tangerine clamshell
2004 MacBook Pro
2006 MacPro tower
2011 MacMini i5
2012 MacMini i7
2017 iMac i5
2018 MacBook Pro 13”

Seven! I don’t use most of them. I use the newest 3 and the 2006 tower sometimes.

It is all related. When you have a lot of other tech, things that are Mac specific may not be all that important because you have other devices. Like gaming on a Mac for someone that has Windows systems with Nvidia cards is a meh item.

2018 13" Macbook Pro
2012 27" iMac (hoping to replace this year)
2011 Mac mini w/ 24" Apple LED Display

2017 15" Macbook Pro that stays connected to a 5k LG display and is my main workhorse.
2017 12" MacBook that is used anytime I need to step out of the house with a computer.
2015 iMac - Running Plex server, file sharing server, surveillance cameras etc.

Waiting to swap the 2017 12" Macbook with a 2018 version when it comes out later this year.

2016 13-inch MBP (nTB/16/512): This is my main personal machine. It comes to work every day with me and has gotten a lot of use. No problems so far.

2016 MacBook (m5/8/512): My wife’s personal travel computer and for work.

2012 Mac mini (i5/16/128 SSD with 500GB data): home server hooked up to external drives and also used for light gaming as it is hooked up to my eGPU now.

2014 Mac mini (2.8/8/1TB Fusion): The home computer that is hooked up to a Thunderbolt Display. This computer has been a champ. It has been on almost 24/7 for the past four years and has never had a problem.

2015 11-inch MacBook Air (base model): I use this for longer trips when I don’t want or need the MBP.

Why might you not take your 13" MBP 2016 for your longer trips? Same weight, smaller size (IIRC), better hardware. Or, do you need the ports on those travels?

Just one, 2017 13" MacBook Pro with Touchbar. I had to sell my two older MacBook Pros (2012 15" and 2014 13") and my Mac Mini that I had to buy this one, and it has totally been worth it!
No issues with the keyboard then?

It's not a port issue or weight/size - the 11-inch MacBook Air is actually a bit smaller and lighter than my 13-inch MBP (but not by much). I've been taking the Air lately on some of these trips because it would be less of a loss for me if it was lost or stolen while I travel.

2018 15" I7 macbook pro - my work/travel machine
2017 iMac Pro - my home/play machine
2014 15" I7 macbook pro - recently retired work machine..
2012 Mac Pro I7 8 cores - movie ripper / renderer
2012 Mac Mine I7 4 core - was trying to set up home server/plex server but Apple cut out the legs of its server software, so replaced with Synology Diskstation NAS
2010 Mac Pro I7 4 core - dust collector
2009 Mac Pro I7 4 core - back up dust collector
2009 15 inch Macbook Pro - Wife's machine.

and then some antiques.

I'm just using my 2012 15" cMBP. It mostly is used on my desk with my Thunderbolt display. I use my iPad most other places in the house and travel (couch, kitchen, bed, airplanes, etc.). I did recently purchase a 2006 15" MBP for next to nothing as a project computer.

Too many to list, so here are the ones I use most often.
  • iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015)
    • 4.0 GHz Intel Core i7-6700K
    • AMD Radeon R9 M395X 4 GB
    • 32 GB 2133 MHz DDR3
    • 512 GB PCIe SSD
    • MacOS 10.13.6
  • MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012)
    • 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7-3720QM
    • NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1 GB
    • 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
    • 512 GB mSATA SSD
    • MacOS 10.14 beta
  • Mac Pro (Mid 2012)
    • 2 x 2.4 GHz Intel Xeon-E5642
    • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 4 GB (no boot screen)
    • 12 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 ECC
    • 480 GB OWC SSD
    • MacOS 10.13.6 (primary)
  • iMac (24-inch, Late 2006)
    • 2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo-T7600
    • NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT 256 MB
    • 4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 (3 GB usable)
    • 256 GB SATA SSD
    • Linux Mint 18.1 Cinnamon (primary)
  • MacBook Pro (17-inch, Mid 2011)
  • iMac (27-inch, Mid 2011)
  • iMac (27-inch, Mid 2010)
  • Mac mini (Mid 2012)

My needs for a portable Mac aren't very demanding, meaning the Mid 2012 Retina MacBook Pro remains good enough. I'll be waiting to see what Apple does with the 2019 models, hopefully a bump in display resolution to what it should be now.

Can you tell us what occasions you use each Mac for? Why leave MacBooks at home if you have an iMac? Not judging, just curious.

I use the iMac at home when I need big screen estate and do a lot of budgeting. My Pro and 12" MacBook I use on the couch. I travel a lot of with the 12".

No none at all, and I use it a lot. I am not stressing about it either, I have the four year keyboard repair program, so if I have an issue I can just take it in. After those four years are up I likely will trade up for a faster quad-core 13” anyways.

I have a 2017 1tb 27" Fusion drive iMac, a 2018 13" 8gb/512gb MacBook Pro, and a 12" 8gb/256gb MacBook. I am thinking about buying a 13" Air for work and leaving the expensive MacBooks at home. How many Macs do you own and what uses do you get out of each one?

Wow, I guess I don't feel so bad about what I'm going through right now. I wanted to learn coding and development and wanted a new laptop for that purpose. I bought a brand new 2017 Macbook air (13", 8gb ram, 128 SSD) on sale for $649. I started second-guessing my purchase and then found a 2015 Macbook pro (13", 16gb ram, 512 SSD) for $535. I love it but I find that it is kind of heavy and not the machine I would take to the library or Starbucks to study. The plan was to get the Macbook pro and return the Macbook air. The only thing is I love the portability of this laptop and don't want to return it! I'm feeling guilty about having two MacBooks but I know if I return this Macbook air at that price point I'm going to regret it. I also was able to find a 2011 iMac that works flawlessly for $40.

2014 MacBook Pro 15
2015 MacBook Pro 15
2010 iMac (need to clean and recycle) 27
2018 Mac Mini
2007 MacBook Pro 15
2007 MacBook Pro 15
2004 PowerMac

Others in the household: 2014 MacBook Pro 15, 2010 MacBook Pro 15
Work provided: 2015 MacBook Pro 13, 2015 MacBook Pro 15

I use the PowerMac as furniture.

2019 MacBook Air base model. That’s it. 😁

Secondary device: iPad 7th gen base model.
