I don't know if you meant it humorously or not, but that actually was when I was at Virginia Tech, from VT surplus 7300s.

It wasn't a barnburner but it let me do renders significantly faster than I could on the G3 I had then, for just a few hundred bucks.

That was also quite a few years ago.

Re: How many Macs have you owned?

I was thinking, whilst sitting in traffic this morning, that I have owned more than my share of Macs since switching back from the PC world in May 2002. Nine fippin' Macs. The excellent resale value of Apples has allowed me to swtich computers a ridiculous rate. I need an intervention or something. Somehow, my wife has not left me.

parent's... II+, IIe, performa 600, ppc 601 desktop
me... power tower pro 180, ibook
borrowed... dual G4

PCs...yikes...pentium 120, pentium 150, 366 mhz compaq presario laptop

wish list...12" inch g4 ibook/or 12" inch powerbook and 64 bit athlon laptop

First Mac in the house was a Classic II, which my brother borrowed from school. Then he got a Colour Classic, which he still has, but unfortunately the hard drive's dead.

As for Macs that I actually owned:

800 MHz iBook (sold it last year)
LC III (bought to onsell to a friend who collects stuff, but I haven't actually sold it yet)
1.25 GHz G4 (my current system)

I've been a mac user since about 1996 or 1997. My first Mac was a Performa 6300 CD...I really like that computer a lot.

Next up was a beige G3 PowerMac that I got for college.

After my freshman year I decided to get a G3 laptop though I kept my powermac as well.

Now I'm just down to a G4 powermac.

Is one of those facts the cause of the other? For some people, too many computers might leave no room for a wife. For others, having no wife might make the companionship of Macs necessary! :)

I've only ever had 1 Mac, an eMac 1GHz which I got a couple of weeks ago. I am very happy with it so I wouldn't be surprised if it was the first of many in the years to come.

I think you're right....

Usually my relationships with the female part of the human race don't really enjoy being shared with 17 other... eh... companions. ;)

Likewise, my 17 companions (of which the girlfriend amazingly seems to figure out my favorite one i.e. the fastest) don't get on too well with her either:
She will usually ask the only steady companion(s) "Where is the start-button?"...

That most of the time spells the end of girl-Mac-me trio relationship :(

:p
