well just got back from best buy, got a perfect iPhone finally. No light leaks, no dead pixels. I am satisfied and now fully enjoying this device, even though I always have.

all of you people are the ones who are annoying little nerds who cry and bitch at the apple store. this is why people think apple fanboys are the worst fanboys ever. get another damn phone then you whiney little bitches.

I believe the first ones had a different aluminum bezel, and no rubber gasket between that and the glass, it is now supposed to make breaking glass by dropping the phone harder..
I'm pretty sure the ones that aren't bothered just don't use it for viewing anything at night, not even browsing, let alone watching a movie on it..
wow, lakaiordie, just wow, thank you, I think everyone will just sell his iPhone to please you and go buy a nokia or whatever, and Apple will not be known for having poor build quality and no quality control, right?

You should hang out with "theSpaz" (another forum member here). You guys would get along great.

And thank YOU for having low standards of quality that allow this to happen in the first place!

Is this a joke? It reveals so many levels of ignorance that I'll just assume you're cracking a bad joke (for your sake).

I'm glad the OP won't need a 19th replacement. Hallelujah.

no, its stupid people who make stupid threads about insignificant things and return their phones like 5 times and complain theres no copy and paste, and complain they have to pay the 30 bucks for the data plan like every other smartphone. and then complain the battery doesnt last long enough for them because they have gps on all the time and play games while bluetooth and wifi and push and fetch@15min on all the time. its a PHONE for crying out loud.

oh and the best one. "i dropped my phone and cracked the screen cuz im stupid, and now apple wont replace it, omg worst customer support ever"

lol@ expecting perfection from a $200-300 super mass produced phone

Dude I couldn't have put it better. Apple has some of the whiniest customers ever, they complain about every little thing. Apple is too lenient on their return policies. I mean there are some who post here who have been through 5 new aluminum macbooks, what are the probabilities of getting that many "defective" products, and some even 6 iphones, I don't even think this is possible. Going by these boards you would think Apple has the worst products but yet they keep on coming up tops in reliability and satisfaction ratings always beating the competition.

I replaced mine after a few months when it bothered me enough. Glad I did it.

It was an easy process and I needed to stop by the Apple Store anyway to get a replacement power plug due to the recall.

Note: Seriously, Apple needs to do something about quality control.
What do they need to do, they have the highest reliability and satisfaction rates for their products, of course they could do more but the way some of you talk you would think their products are complete garbage.

first of all, the iPhone is not $200-300, don't forget that price is subsidized, right now you can't have it without a contract in the US,can you? Italy is one of the few places selling it unlocked and I have a 2 year warranty on it, payed €569 for a 16GB 3G, more than $800..super mass produced phone? they've had plenty of time to produce as many as they wanted.
I know it's sophisticated as a little nice thing but i've had too many problems as to cosmetics/build quality, don't wanna talk about safari and all that stability BS, they're two different things..
your earlier post was about the whining consumers pretending perfection, but your last post has nothing to do with this thread, sorry

show me the numbers, beating the competition? you talking about both iPhone and Macbook (pro) build quality and quality control overall? really?

Not many people are saying Apple's products are garbage, but there are some that give up and want their money back and are going back to windows or windows mobile/ blackberry, treo, nokia, whatever
I have given up on the light leak problem,i've had 6 of em,all affected by other defects as well: dust, cracks, stuck pixels on most of em, unaligned glass with the bezel and a lot of smaller stuff, bad home button, bad sleep button and now bad silent switch..
I don't care what other products' quality control is like,or what their prices are, Apple's products are pretty close to what I expect they should do and what I need, but I expect my next one to have less flaws

Ok.

Thank you for driving up the cost of iPhones. Don't people have better things to do than examine the edges of their iPhone in the dark for defects? At what point should this be considered OCD?

It is not OCD to expect a device that costs at least $500 (sorry the fact that AT&T subsidized it for you upfront doesn't mean you aren't paying the full cost). Right or wrong, people have every right to expect as close to perfection as possible from an Apple product. Why you ask? Because that's their policy. Hence, exchanging for things you have deigned unimportant. If you are happy with your device as is, good for you. But criticizing someone because they aren't is simply puerile.

Exactly.

Ok.
aren't we talking about light leaks here? that other guy was "complaining" about Apple's newbies whining about no copy/paste, at & t prices and other BS that has nothing to do with Apple's build quality or quality control, and that has nothing to do with this thread, and now your links..
let's start with the first one, jdpower Overall satisfaction is measured across five key factors. In order of importance, they are: ease of operation (27%); operating system (24%); physical design (21%); handset features (18%); and battery aspects (10%). ,where do you see the build quality what we're talking about compared to the other manufacturer's?
vnunet is talking about iPhone more reliable than the competition, the title says it, Problems looked at in the study included failures in software and features, Bluetooth and other connections, camera and other accessories, and call and power issues. do I have to really quote your articles for you to understand? did you even read them? did you just google iPhone satisfaction? Let me help you, this article ISN'T talking about build quality.
macworld Apple tops Consumer Reports tech support ratings help me understand what AppleCare and the whole Apple Store experience have to do with all of my 6 iPhones having issues, thank you
mercurynews, still, no sign of the build quality, me being satisfied with my unique OS, my machines' look, my iPhone's capabilities, iPod, Mighty Mouse, Airport Extreme and other stuff doesn't really have to do with the build quality, I am an Apple fan and I will keep buying their stuff, I will not sell my iPhone, I will exchange it for one that has less flaws, I have given up on the light leaking part and it doesn't really make me happy.
We all now Apple's customers are usually kinda picky, maybe even OCD, pretty careful to every detail and such, I may say "perfectionist" and it is all due to Apple's policy, they have always made beautiful machines, have always experimented, spent money on RnD.
If there are Dells built better than certain Macbooks, I'm not going to buy one because I know most of Apple's notebooks are close to perfect, but not many notebooks out there are this close to perfection regarding the looks/sizes/functionality/simplicity
The iPhone is a small Phone and it is kinda full of features, even though being pretty simple to use, not many buttons, etc, and it's pretty easy for it to have flaws out of the box, I'm not blaming Apple or saying they suck, but they better do something about their quality control, Pay Foxconn more or just change factories, make their own factories

That's right. Someone mentioned me earlier in the thread because I returned 3 iPhones and got a perfect one on the fourth try. I've had a full range of hardware defects that I deemed unacceptable. I hope Apple goes back to aluminum again... I'll deal with slightly less signal strength for a phone that I don't have to worry about holding too tight. From my experience and all the defects I have dealt with... I am kind of afraid of handling my iPhone like a normal phone... I can't put it in my pocket (afraid to bump into something or the shine to wear off)... I can't put it on any hard surface (afraid it will scratch or CRACK)... I can't plug headphones into it (I did once and now I already have cracks on 2 sides of the metal ring)... and I NEVER worried about those things with the original iPhone.

well just got back from best buy, got a perfect iPhone finally. No light leaks, no dead pixels. I am satisfied and now fully enjoying this device, even though I always have.

Good for you. It took me 4 to get one I was happy with... and while I was getting my 4th one, I was able to look at two others (which had pretty bad light leaks or case misalignments).

Look I'm just saying if consumers weren't satisfied with the quality of Apple's products they wouldn't be always topping these surveys for consumer satisfaction. For y'all to paint Apple as having quality control issues is laughable, I guess all of Apple's competitors also have quality control issues.

Appple's competitors definitely have issues as well, regarding at least quality control, and in the end it's probably just easier for a $50 Motorola or Nokia to have less flaws as they're just simpler to make, same goes for a thick ass HTC or Nokia
Apple's customers are almost always satisfied with their products pretty much because they're simply in a different category, rarely comparable to the other products out there.
I don't know about the most recent Macbooks and Pros, but as far as smartphones, I would expect bad quality control from Nokia, not so much from Blackberry and from HTC,as they're some sort of company from taiwan..but not from Apple, I really am surprised I have to go through 6 Phones for different flaws and give up on Light leaks and turn the brightness to 1/10 in order to watch a movie or use it at night.

I have somewhat insignificant light leak around the entire sides in random places (White iPhone 3G). No matter how insignificant, the light leak is ridiculous for a $300 cell phone.

that is a subsidized price, it costs more than $800 contract free, and do you know what's considered light leak?the one between the glass and aluminum.. it's just that yours' being white it's possible you're referring to the plastics' transparency

One of ours has pretty significant leaking, if you look for it. It doesn't really hurt the games / other uses, though.

Keep in mind I have a pretty hardcore approach when it comes to consumer electronics. I like it to be battered by the time it's ready to be recycled, so I'm definitely more tolerant of tiny flaws than some of us. :D

I have a very small amount on one side, which is only visible when looking at the phone in landscape, from certain angles, and in dark surrounds. Given it's very easy to tilt an extra 2-5 degrees and not see it at all, I'm not bothered...
