I don't really see how that's disgusting... I mean, do you go out anywhere? I'm sure you've touched worse bacteria while at work and then touched your mouth or face after. You should be more worried about that.

I'm sure people aren't using it between wipes so I don't really see how it's disgusting. (At least not with the same hand)

It is just the thought that something could go wrong and the iPad could catch some dirt :)
Anyway, the iPad can be used almost anywhere, so I guess if someone wants to use it on the Toilett he/she might as well do it. I don't use it like this.

Seriously those of you who feel the need to use a piece of electronic device whilst doing a $h1t is utterly disgusting. I'm betting most of you will wash your hands but won't bother wiping down the iPad with some cleaning wipes..

Is your life so hectic and empty that you can't spare 5 mins without using an iPad/Iphone/laptop?

Edit: not sure what happened there...

There is no better place to catch up with Reader than while dropping a deuce.

Time is precious, I'll make the most out of as much as I can!

Uhh... You're wiping your butt with toilet paper. Not your iPad. Why would you wipe down your iPad? While you're doing your business, your hand doesn't come in contact with anything. When you're ready to finish up you put down your iPad and then wash your hands. How is that disgusting?

You must not have any kids, if you find that disgusting.. Once you do (if you want them) you'll never find anything disgusting ever again.

And for most people it's the opposite. Their life is so busy, that it's one of the only times they may have to check emails or just have some free time to do as they wish. Just because you have all day to do whatever you want, it doesn't mean others have the same opportunity.

I use my MBP 17 on "the throne".

I actually get a lot done on "the throne".

OH guess where I am now! That's right, I am infact on "the throne" right now.

It's disgusting because you can get microorganisms on your hands when pulling your pants down, lowering the toilet lid, or by laying the iPad on contaminated surfaces in the bathroom, among other things. No surface in the house is bacteria-free but keeping iPads out of the bathroom is a reasonable step for reducing the risk of transmission and infection. Do you have any experience in managing infection?

Also if someone is so busy they can go to bed five minutes later and check their e-mail then. Or be a disgusting slob spreading coliform bacteria around, who am I to infringe on the right to be a dirtbag?

I think you're a little too worried about the micro-bacteria man, they aren't THAT harmful; I mean you brush your teeth in the same place right? of couse all you have to do is wipe the screen down after you're done, no harm there.

Edit: @Kupp (Below) Yea I saw this earlier and it makes a lot of sense if you think about it. In public bathrooms and the like where they're cleaned every day, there aren't going to be THAT many germs on the seats as opposed to other commonly used surfaces that are NEVER cleaned (tables, electronic screens, door handles, etc.)

QFT! Living life in a plastic bubble is definitely the way to go

Right cause the options are either a plastic bubble or using an iPad while defecating; it's not like I proposed reasonable levels of cleanliness.

If toilet seats are cleaner because they're cleaned, so what? I was replying to someone who questioned even wiping down the iPad. It's also entirely reasonable to minimize the spread of germs; one way is by not moving objects like the iPad in and out of these areas, even if their screens have germs of their own. Other people feel the need to defend $&@#ting while using the iPad; you can imagine how seriously I take that community of sophisticates.

Yes, because everyone goes around worrying about micro organisms and bacteria day to day. I know thats on the top of my list for things to worry about.

You call someone a dirtbag for using a phone on the toilet. Nothing else needs to be said about that.

I prefer actually using my immune system, but by all means go ahead and tell other people that they're disgusting to make yourself feel better.

In fact, I may just go to the Apple store tonight to buy an iPad specifically for the aforementioned room. Then, after using it solely in those four walls for two months, I'm going to put it up on eBay or CL, just for the ***** and giggles.

The bathroom is one of the cleanest rooms in most houses. Mainly because their cleaned very often. You make it sound like you're living on the streets and your bathroom is some public outhouse that's filthy. Bacteria is ALL around you, and there is nothing you can do about it. If you're so worried about it, then build yourself a bubble and spend the rest of your life in it.

You should really use Google. You'll find some interesting information about bacteria and houses. If you're honestly worried about bacteria from your bathroom, I feel sorry for you. You have a lot to learn about the rest of your house.

I'm afraid His Lordship believes that a gentleman refrains from the use of ones hands while flying the Tartis. Perhaps one could task ones manservant with the manipulation of said electronic device. This of course assumes that "clean up" will be handled by the stable boy.

Sounds like some one has potty training issues

Please. What do you touch after touching your pants at night when you take them off? Have you ever thought about that? Or when you change clothes? Or when you try on clothes at the store? Do you wash your hands every single time before touching something else? Unlikely.

Do you use your phone after touching your wallet or using money? Or a credit card? Or do you run and use the restroom after every transaction in the mall no matter how many stores you spend money at? That would be rather daunting at Christmas time. How about amusement parks? Do you use a phone after getting off a ride and holding onto a bar that who knows how many have touched? Or do you wash your hands upon exiting each and every ride before ever touching your phone? Do you never use a phone in a car, because you did after all touch the door knob to get in it.

As for contaminated surfaces, ever thrown your iPad or phone on a bed? Now there's a contaminated surface. And don't even get me started on hotel rooms. Using your logic, phones and iPads would only ever be used in some lab somewhere behind an airlock. It's just not realistic.

Proudly using my iPad in the bathroom every single day.

if you saw the micro organisms that are living in your eyelashes, you wouldn't even get out of bed in the morning.

what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger. nothing in your bathroom is going to 'infect' you or poison you if you hadn't already picked it up from your tooth brush.

Damn, how much time do you guys spend on the throne to need something to play on? I just dump and go in less than 5 minutes so who has time to use the iPad in that short period of time? Makes no sense....

Lol, that's exactly what I was thinking while reading through this thread.

I'v wondered the same thing about people who take a newspaper to read. I was reading something interesting in the paper and needed to "go", so thought I'd take the paper with me to carry on reading. Well I only read 1 sentence and I was done...

Either people love sitting there for awhile after doing the deed (maybe they like the smell ), or they need to think about eating more fruit and veg lol.

I like to watch videos off of Cnet was delivering the mail. Sometimes maybe a video off YouTube.

It just screams I am off for some ******* action.

iPad in bed resting on your belly with some POV porn........

Not that I would but I've heard with the iPad 2 you can actually film yorself and watch yourself while you ........ Then upload it to YouPorn all at that same time.

The wonders of technology.

Usually it takes me good 10-15 mins if I don't want to rush it. Don't want to get false alarm and finish wiping before realizing there is more to come out. I'm sure I am not the only one.
