How many people will buy the New Air if it has an M1 in it ?

Will you purchase the New MBA if it comes with a M1 instead of the New M2

The reason I posted this is because we currently have a M1 Air and it constantly restarts and battery life has dropped big time. I know the M1 is great .. But I figured to wait for NEW engine in the NEW air.. Not sure if I'm the only one that has restarting issues but I'm sure its the M1 .. Apple said nothing wrong with our M1 Air..

Have you tried reinstall from scratch and keep M1-native app only? Or went to Apple Store to check whether there is hardware issue (sudden & constant restart could be sign of hardware issue).

Would depend on price for me. If it’s a good deal I’d still buy it. If it’s like $1300 starting I’d probably go for the 14” MBP.

Only if the base model is updated to have 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD at the least.
The M1 is not only two years old, it uses 2-year-old cores as well form the A14. And paying for a 2 year old tech at its original 2 year old price? Nu uh.

it will be a big update if all the rumours are true. Complete redesign and new colours to match the 24” iMac. Conflicting rumours say the new Air will have M1 but other leakers have also said M2.

I don’t mind as long as it’s faster than my 13” MacBook Pro from 2019, that has Intel processors in it.

2-year old tech that still hammers down and runs laps on this year's tech.

No, I wouldn't, but it has nothing to do with the M1 or M2 chip.

I do not like the white keys and the white bezels, so much so I wouldn't buy it even if it came with an M2 chip.

Next point. I'm not a tech geek and there are others on this forum who will be able to speak more the point I'm about to make.

With the Macbook Air being fanless, there is only so much power it may have and still have the passive cooling be able to work.

Yes, the chip technology will keep improving, but if they want to keep the MBA fanless, they will have to figure out how to handle faster and more powerful chips while still keeping the MBA fanless.

I'm not saying they can't or won't, but a fanless MBA can only handle so much power and only be so productive.

If they put a much more powerful chip into the MBA, at some point they'd have to add fans to it, like in the Macbook Pro.

And, for now at least, the M1 chip is still a fantastic chip. It's not like competitors are running circles around it, at all.

Orange has been my favorite color for decades and decades and I'd love to get a new MBA in the orange color.

But, I will not buy a laptop with white keys and a white bezel, even if it's orange, even if it has an M2 chip and on and on.

To me, the white keys and bezels are a deal breaker, period.

To me, they look cheap.

I have the 2020 M1 based MBA, so not much point in buying a new one with the same processor, screen size and battery life In a new chassis. What would make me upgrade is if it had all of the following:

1. Magsafe.
2. Larger screen (15” would be nice but I would accept 14”).
3. 25% increase in battery life.

Current performance is fine and I have an M1 Max based 16” MBPro if I need ports and much faster performance with more support for external screens. I want a light, battery sipping machine for my everyday transportable use.

BTW that blue would be nice…..

My Air have some more years in it, no upgrade now. Especially not as it now can go back to 'normal' use after my Studio Max have arrived.
I have never heard the fans in my MBA behaving as a jet before though, in the period when it was my only Mac. It was never bought to be that so… 🖥🫶🏻
Maybe a M3 MBA….who knows.

So you want the MacBook Pro then

Backup your files then restore it to new... You could go into settings and figure out what's using the battery. Most of the time it's Chrome but it could be something else.

No, I'd like an orange M2 MBA with black keys, black bezels and it can have an M1 chip in it too. I like that it's fanless.

My point is that, at some point, be it with the M3 chip or the M4 chip, they won't be able to put that powerful of a chip into a such a small, light, fanless chassis that is the MBA.

For those who don't want that, there is the MacBook Pro and that's not me.

I like light, smaller and fanless.

I don’t care about the processor, just the weight and whether or not it causes headaches like the M1 MBA. If no headaches I will buy one for sure.

Just curious, headache is due to the screen? I also had similar experience, usually after 1 hour in front of MBA.

I can't tell exactly what. I had a 2019 MBA and no problems with that. With the M1 MBA just can't adjust it to where I don't get headaches. Tried turning off everything -- true tone, auto brightness, screen dimming on battery, etc. I doubt it's PWM because the frequency is so high. I think it might be temporal dithering, or something else.

There's a whole thread about it here -- linking to a post about temporal dithering and pixel inversion.

I have not tried to turn off temporal dithering as mentioned in the above post. I also haven't tried using a privacy screen which filters blue light which some have reported as helping.

No problems with Windows computers, only with the macOS. :(
