Have you ever swapped out your iPhone with Apple hoping to get a 'better' one?

since owning the original, 3GS, 4, 5 & 6.

Swapping in an attempt to get the TSCM chip is downright scummy

This! Like I said, if somebody came to my store and tried that crap...I wouldn't do it. What some don't realize, is doing those constant returns not only screws up a store's inventory...it also costs the store money. I get doing returns for legit reasons. But the TSCM/Samsung thing ain't one of them

hi
1st time was on purchase day at an apple store. i asked them to set it up for me. when they were setting it up they were the ones who noticed something about the disk (SSD) that they preferred to actually give me another one. although i never used it, i still had to go through the process of making a formal return to get another.
the 2nd time was on a different macbook air entirely. i bought that one on line. initially i didn't notice anything but within a few days the trackpad was clearly not seated correctly and the lower casing would move a little - the screws were not really coming out or anything, but it was as the lower case was somehow open just a little bit.

Son and I had iPhone 3GS, we swapped them out for the 4s because it was more good. Then few years later we swapped them out for 5s. Then we got a bit ridiculous and swapped out for 6 Plus and a year later 6s Plus. So far that is the only swapping we have had to do. The first one of each type was perfect in every way.

So that's ten phones that were good from the start in our experience.

Sounds more like upgrading to me, not changing handset due to defects.

I have many times, but I found them to be real issues. Mostly with the iPhone 4/5 generation and yellow screen and the 6 generation mechanical/button/camera problems. 6S has been completely flawless. Yellow screen is #1 on the list, it isn't placebo, it doesn't go away, it isn't "glue" it is the WORST. a very yellow screen literally ruins the phone. It is terrible. Turn on night mode on your phone with a normal screen, then imagine that all the time. That is exactly what it is like. That being said, I think the 6S generation has been the best quality wise they have ever produced. Brilliant display, great mechanical quality, and solid overall build. Most of the time the issues I think were cascading in nature - the replacement / refurb devices were of much lower quality or different components, so the replacements would basically have many more problems than the brand new phones. Found this to be pretty true.

That's why I said the only swapping out we did was for newer phones. Not having to swap out for defects was one of the answers asked for. The zero swap option. I didn't think this thread was just for complaining that we did have issues.

Swapped mine 5 times because of the screen. Each phone was either:

  1. Yellow on the left, Blue on the right.
  2. Much Brighter at the bottom of the screen than the to.
  3. Dark corners.
These weren't anal nick picking observations. Everyone I showed the phones to saw them. My current phone is as it should be. Uniform brightness and colour.

I have a trained eye by profession so unfortunately for me I pick up on inconsistencies.

Every item I've gotten from Apple has been as perfect in my view. I've never had to return or exchange anything.
Same here.
I think Apples quality checks are pretty good tbh.

It's because they make these electronics so expensive. I can understand why people want "perfect" phone because of the price they paid. If the price range was $200-400 like it used to be, then this type of behavior will go away.
Well they would be cheaper if people weren't retuning them because they've changed their mind about the colour or size.

If there is visible damage on the phone out of the box, then I'll ask for another and if the second phone has visible damage I'll ask for another! We pay £600+ for these phones, I think we are entitled for pristine phones out of the box.

The difference in chips however, I don't care about.

"Oh, my phone lasts three minutes longer than yours."

"My phone loads Real Racing 3 0.000004 of a second quicker."

People like that do my head in.

Just once, my 6 had problems with a very inconsistent battery indicator - with very lare percentage jumps discharging or charging. After restoring as new and checking the battery at Apple, which they said was good (though two battery apps indicated a very worn battery) the genius suggested it may be a hardware issue so he offered me a new phone and I took it. Everything else with the phone and my previous 5 and 4 were perfect. So no, I don't care about little cosmetic issues.
