Apple animations & other non-essential "features" require more juice to support. It's just the nature of having a bit of a bloated OS. The kids love it.

I don't think animations and parallax are responsible for that ...

Right now it's showing 73%

1 hrs 30 mins use on WIFI
2 hrs 42 mins standby

If I did the math right, it's supposed to be 80% which is my battery % is 7% lower than the spec.

Um 6 hr usage may not be too bad actually. Depending on type of usage. You need to look at the specs and do the math to figure out where you are. And there is no "number of resets" to fix it. Only if the failed update or hung app etc will the reset solve anything. Here are your specs:

◾Talk time: Up to 8 hours on 3G
◾Standby time: Up to 225 hours
◾Internet use: Up to 8 hours on 3G, up to 8 hours on LTE, up to 10 hours on Wi-Fi
◾Video playback: Up to 10 hours
◾Audio playback: Up to 40 hours

Take your usage types and divide by the specs and you will get a since of where you should be for MAX apple specification. Example using 4s specs:
(200hr std by on 4s, and 7.5 avg wifi and 3g data mix)

Reported standings:
6 hr 45 min stby
1 hr 31 min use
75% remaining

so based on those figures 6.75/200=.033 or 3% used for stdby, 1.5/7.5 wifi /3g mix = .2 or 20%, so 100%- (3+20)= 76% remaining

In this case the phones reported 75% and the remaining that % based on the math is almost the exact so this user was getting right at the max Apple spec.

Sounds like you are right there. Remember the % meter is not 100% accurate and the specs are the MAX Apple reports which is in a controlled environment. They are going to post the best possible case for their spec'd times. So if you are that close I would say all is well. I doubt anyone would ever get 100% of Apples max spec times. Also keep in mind display brightness and a million other variables come into play as well. I believe you are probably fine and I would doubt seriously if you saw much difference with a new battery. I would try this for a few more days and keep track of usage and see how it pans out. Just my opinion of course.

I wouldnt look at the % and trust it. Its not always accurate. Just see how many hours you get before the phone actually runs out of battery.

So are Apple going to dismiss this battery drain issue because some don't experience it?

Pretty much. They do it in other areas. For example, the graphics issues with iMac(2007/2008) where they can't upgrade past 10.6.2 And that issue is 100% Apple custom code, not a hardware issue.
