20 years ago porting a number was not a thing, so I changed a few times before then. However I have had the same number since 2002 give or take. Damn, I miss my old number that ended in 0300

I changed once because I inadvertently gave it out in a screenshot to someone on a dating site I wasn't sure about. Didn't want to chance it. Although in hindsight I wondered if it would have mattered, because my number has been bombarded with robocalls more frequently vs the old number. This was couple yrs ago. But changing numbers is a huge hassle because of how tied in it can be to some accounts that use the number for security.
wait what? you changed it just because you gave your number out on a dating site? you know you could have just blocked someone if they were annoying right?

I have had my current number for over 22 years. When I switched from Alltel to AT&T, it was 1998 and there was no option to port a phone number from one service to another. My wife and I switched to AT&T and both of us have had the same numbers since then.

I only considered changing one time - I had used my personal phone as a pager for support issues from my job. When I retired in 2016 I considered changing numbers, but chose to "ride it out".

No, this was a Chinese Dating App. I didn't give the person my number. I exposed it in a screenshot. Lot of scammers are on that site. I didn't feel like letting them spoof my number for anything else they might want to do with it.

I envy anyone that can keep a phone number for 20+ years. I still have my first number from '99 memorized but back then when you switched carriers, porting wasn't a thing yet so I didn't get to keep it. Since then I've lost count of how many numbers I've had. I had to change it twice in the past year alone, once after a breakup with a crazy ex who wouldn't quit blowing up my phone and another time because some scammers got a hold of the new number and spammed me to death. I think my google voice # is the only one I've had for more than a few years :/

Never changed my number, I have it from 1999. I even kept it while I moved in other countries of European Union. Now I have my old Romanian number and the UK number while living in a third EU country. I hope that European Union will find a way for us to port a phone number from a country to the other, as it's very common to move around for work, business or pleasure in EU these days.

My wife accused me of changing my phone number as often as I change my socks. Haven't changed mine (phone #) for several years now. The problem isn't so much about notifying friends, family, businesses, doctors, banks, etc. That can be done in a day. The problem is that many friends don't bother changing my number in their address book. Later, they try to call and can't reach me. Had to pass up many "deals" because wife adamantly refuses to change her number.

I haven't changed my number since 2002. It's a good number, I can't let it go. :p:D:)
EXACTLY! I picked my number way back 24 years ago (back when they'd show you a list of like 100 available numbers and let you pick!), because it has lots of my favorite number in it, and I'd never let it go.

Haha. I found this pic from my vast photo library. This is my old, old phone. Back when Sex and The City and bling phones were all the rage. Enjoy!

I’ve had only one number, since 1997. Unwanted calls are rewarded with a blocking, goodbye for ever. I think it’s interesting to read that it is not at all uncommon to changes one’s number, even, in some countries, commonly “almost on a monthly basis” as a poster wrote. I can’t think of anything that would push me into changing a number, my sole annoyance are spammers and sellers, and it feels really satisfying to lock them out with the push of a button.

It has already been touched upon, I’m still curious to ask you who change regularly or occasionally: isn’t it crazy tedious to update everyone who needs your number, and to update all web resources people use to find your number? Often people find my number to contact me in matters relevant to my work, either through a common acquaintance or information services.

Been with Telus since they were called ClearNet... haven’t changed the number since.

I’ve had people ask, is that a real phone #... ends in 1233

Still on my original number I got with my first mobile phone (1991, I think)

I was lucky to get a 'good' number, (golden number, I think they're called) so I've stuck with it ever since.

I’m on a roll today. While cleaning out my drawers, I found these older phones. Just couldn’t throw them away, I really loved all of them!

Years back I used to change my number all the time. But had the same number for 6 years or so now. Ends in 0001 :). Pretty hard to give that one up lol.

For around 7 years now I’ve owned a 867-5309 number for those of you who aware of the song.

Oldest number would be my parents original landline. It got moved to voip forever ago. But recently moved it to a cell phone (free) they’ve had it for about 20 years.

I'm somewhere around 26 years with my first and only number. At this point the family would revolt if I changed it.

I can relate to the parents' landline number. When they passed, my brother bought the home and cancelled the landline service. They had that number for over 55 years at the time. Would have loved to have ported that to my cell... shame... and, yeah, my brother is an idiot (for reasons other than just the landline thing).:cool:
