Most often my safari browser crashes under these circumstances

Safari on my iPhone crashes once a day or so. iPhone applications in general seem a little unstable to me, but Steve Jobs promised a fix soon (for whatever that's worth).

Oddly, Safari has not even crashed ONCE since I bought my 3g on Jul. 12th.
However, it crashes all the time on my old iPod Touch running 1.x.x firmware.

Additionally, except for the signal bars jumping around randomly, I have not had any random dropped calls (and my phone switches between edge and 3g often in my daily commute, since 3g is very spotty here). I have had no random crashes, my 3g speeds are great, edge speeds are good, no cracks in the phone, no light leaks, good reception, and no other problems that keep getting brought up on here.

The only dropped calls I have are within a 500ft. section between sand dunes along the lakeshore here (I live 2 blocks from Lake Michigan).

I must have gotten a good one, but I am terrified that at any moment it will start acting up thanks to reading all the complaints.

Im running JailBroken 2.0.1 BTW, and live in Grand Haven, MI

Something odd that I've noticed lately is that when I tap the screen a couple of times to navigate the webpage, the volume window appears, than safari crashes and the iphone goes back to the homescreen. Anyone else notice this?

this also happens to me, very strange bug.
I always think, I didn't hit the volume button did I ?

Same thing has happened to me a few times.

Mine seems to happen when I visit some websites for the first time that has some kind of drop down box that I can scroll through (i.e., www.michigangasprices.com). After it crashes and I reopen, the website works fine indefinitely. Does not happen for all websites with drop downs though.

Nearly each time I go to Apple store to try out iphone 3g, Safari crashes when loading Chinese yahoo page. I surf this website very often to check out news. This really pisses me off and change my mind of purchasing iphone 3G.

http://tw.yahoo.com/

if you can read chinese and click the title news, safari just freezes after loading the page. Don't know if it's same for english yahoo.com or safari only crashes when displaying chinese fonts.

It seems that if I've opened (and closed) more than a few other apps since power cycling the phone, safari will crash "for sure" before I'm done browsing. Repeatedly.

I read gizmodo alot on the phone. I don't know if you consider that to be "heavy" or not, but opening it in a single window, after using the phone a few hours since the last power cycle = 50/50 chance of repeated crashes. The only solution I've found is to restart the phone. Off a fresh restart, safari has never crashed on me during the entire session I use it, no matter what I do in it, assuming it's the first app I open after the restart.

It seems like when apps "close" somehow the memory isn't returned to the OS properly or something which makes any memory intensive applications crash repeatedly when they try to open and don't have enough memory. Hell, maybe it's only certain apps and that's why some people have more trouble than others. Or maybe I'm way off base.

BTW, I wish people were better at putting together polls. Where are the options for "my safari never crashes" or "my safari crashes VERY rarely" so we can get some perspective.

Dont know where news is, but I have clicked several of the tabs in the middle center of the page below the sear bar, etc...

Loads quick, and doesnt freeze or crash.

Also just tried it with wifi off and on 3g, and while it takes a bit to load, it definitely does not freeze or crash.

No crashes for me in Safari - a few Apps have crashed - but opening them again was fine.

So I'm another vote for the missing poll entry - "no crashes of note"

I dont know if I got a good one or what. A couple of my buddies have had problems with theirs, but since getting mine on Jul. 12th, I have had NONE of the issues everyone brings up, except for appstore apps crashing occasionally (oddly, jailbroken apps very very rarely crash for me though).

Im running 2.0.1 jailbroken, and live in an area with very spotty 3g coverage, so it is constantly switching back and fourth.

If you click these circled tabs, any crashes after loading the page?

sorry, i was editing my previous message. The most of time safari crashes is clicking these black tabs. Either safari stops responding or it goes back to home screen.

Nope still no crashes no matter what I do on that page.

I will say it does take a long time to load, even when I switch to wifi, and the page does have flash objects, so that could be part of the issue.

Still no crashes even after clicking all of those.
