Let's do something also...

For those that have gotten theirs replaced, and be honest, was the iPhone dented or badly dropped?

Mine is still like new, never dropped, have it since mid June and while I've had software glitches that would scare most people, they have been explained or fixed via software updates.

I think it is important to differentiate a defective iPhone vs and abused one.

I'm on my second iPhone. The first one stopped charging the battery and drained completely. It would say it is charging but nothing would get the charge back up -- not the AC adapter, not a USB cable, not the car adapter. Apple replaced it for free.

I don't know what caused it, but I've heard rumors it could be the Belkin car adapter causing problems. I've mostly stopped using it with my 2nd iPhone. I might also suspect having it plugged in when the car is started (it's reasonable to expect a car to undergo a voltage spike during startup/starter motor/ignition).

5 times

I have had to have my iPhone 3Gs replaced going on 5 times in less than a year. The day I bought it, it just shut off and never could be turned back on. I took it back to the store and they replaced it. It was fine for about 4 months when I noticed when it was plugged into the AUX in my car, the sound would only play out of half of my speakers. I thought it was my AUX cable and left it that way until I got a new AUX cable and low and behold it still had the same prob. That is when I noticed that the metal lining of the jack input was missing a piece. I called Apple and they sent me a replacement- that took 2 weeks to get. That was phone number 3 and that was 4 months ago. The 3rd replacement was fine except it was a little slow and I could never post pictures to my FB profile from my phone, I had to use my husband's iPhone 4 to do it. Then 2 weeks ago it just shut off and nothing Apple told me to do over the phone could get it turned on again. So I sent it to Apple and received my 4th replacement yesterday. I synced it with my itunes and restored my back up and then tried to re-establish connection with my wifi. It wouldn't work. The password was fine. Then I would turn off and on the phone and the menu under settings for wifi would be gone. Anyway- long story short...called Apple after 45 mins on the phone- it needs to be replaced!! So...I am going on number 5 and this time I want an UPGRADE!! This is terrible! Apart from all this...I still love the iPhone. I just want one that works like it should for longer than 4 months..or in this last instance, a day, lol.

my original unit : about 5 times.

my refurb : 3 times.

yep, im OCD. Just a bunch of imperfections (dust under screen mainly, proximity sensor not working) until i got the perfect unit. i'm not spending £600 and being unhappy with it.

0- iPhone

0-iPhone 3G

0-iPhone 3GS

5-iPhone 4

iPhone 4 has the worst build quality of all.

edit...in my experiences...

I havent yet but may need to take it in soon. Battery life on my iPhone 4 has been crap for past 2 months.

I've had my 3GS replaced twice, one time because the camera wouldn't function and another time with a lock button issue. Both of these happened last year, my current one has been fine. I won't get irritated with it until I get to at least 5 (the number of replacements I went through with the Palm Pre).

Had my first iPhone - original 2G (16GB) - that I bought back in Feb 08 replaced in Jan 09 due to 3 screen anomalies (air bubbles?) that the Genius bar couldn't fix. He even tried using canned air.

Other than that, no issues here **knock on wood** with the 3GS that I've been on since launch back in June 09. Only "issue" I had was when I was updating to iOS 4.0.1 back in July, iTunes disconnected my phone from USB port right in the middle of the installation phase, so iTunes couldn't detect/recognize my phone. It took me doing a manual hard reset and setting up as a new phone, which wiped ALL of my data - 60 some apps, 1,000 some songs, contacts, etc - and I had to re-install everything

But I got it back upto speed (figuratively speaking of course) now and all is well. Eagerly awaiting the new iPhone 4S or whatever it shall be called.

I've had my iPhone 4 since September and I had to have it replaced once due to my lock button not working, but the flying leap it took across the room after my darling husband kicked it off the bed might have had something to do with that. My refurb replacement has some "quirks" but nothing bad enough to send me for a new one. All in all I'm satisfied with it

Twice- the first one kept giving me a no sim error, the second one the camera was messed up. Third one worked fine til a couple months ago, now sometimes when I'm done talking I hit the end button and nothing happens. I brought it in to the Apple store but they couldn't reproduce it, so he made a note in the system and told me to come back if it keeps happening. Not sure if I'm gonna go back or just wait for the new iphone - it doesn't happen all the time, so it's not that bad.

None, though I paid for an out of warranty battery replacement on my 2G when I gave it to my wife and they just gave her an entirely new (well, probably refurbed) handset.

Phazer

Faulty battery (or maybe 4.3)

Oh and they were nice enough to give me one with a 4.2.1 firmware.
