There is no problem with what you are doing. That is why I said 90% are tethering. You fall into that 10%. ATT sets the mark at 5GB in their system as a notifier so they know to check if any "illegal" activities are going on. Even if ATT contacted you about using too much data, they would do some research and see that you haven't been tethering and tell you that you are fine. Everything I have said has not been directed at you and I do not think you have been doing anything wrong. If you read my posts again you will see that I disagree with people that violate TOS and use lots of data. There is nothing wrong with you using your phone a lot and obeying the TOS.

I didn't mean it as an "attack"... What I guess I was trying to say (but reading over it again I wasn't clear about) is that, if I manage to use that much in just watching movies a month... there should be no problem with people who tether and use the same or more. I just think that this is what we pay for! Other countries are using it no problem.... YES i do get pissed whenever my phone calls drop every 10 minutes but the reality (to me) is that ATT is a POS. Tethering should not be a problem at all. I think "hey go ahead an use it, apperantly its not that big of an issue yet... use all the bandwith possible and make it a problem that way ATT is forced to fix it rather than "promise to" ". Know what I mean?

I just don't know who to blame... Is it Apple for getting such a POS network lock the phone down (when the whole world gets better networks?!?!?) or ATT for pushing something they weren't ready for?

In any case, if they sell you an "unlimited plan" I don't think there's much they could do if you abuse it. I am no attorney but "unlimited" is "unlimited"... One day they will run across the wrong person who will slap them with a law suit.

How the HELL can yall use 2-7GB and not be tethering?!? Do yall ever put your phones down? I thought I had heavy usage around 500MB but damn i'm barely scrathing the surface. I see why AT&T is point the finger at yall lol, take those 5+ GB users and multiply it by millions that's a hell of a lot of usage.

Again... they sell a product "unlimited". If you don't tether (like me) and use just as much as people who do, WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE?????????

No he's not but he does have a pretty valid point.

People wonder why they are having so many problems in major metropolitan areas and the like. You have people tethering that shouldn't be doing it.

Go complain to your crappy network operator.

There are other countries out there with millions of iPhones that haven't put a single dent into their carriers networks (and most of them out there have tethering).

It just seems that ATT found a way to confuse the consumer into thinking that using a product that they pay for is wrong....

I'm curious where you get this from. I have never heard of one person being contacted about going over 5 gb, and I myself have never been contacted. Have you heard/know of someone who has?

Well, it's implied that we are referring to the USA. Not anywhere else. :)

I just crossed the 4GB threshold after using the iPhone for nearly 2 years. I run between 200-500MB each month. I can't imagine using over a GB a month. Using data runs down my battery too much and I'm not close to a charge most of the day.

I know...just saying...it exists, but ppl mixed it up.

But again, why would we be talking about a 5GB cap on a plan that isn't iPhone related? This is an iPhone board, not at&t

I'm just pointing out how ppl may have gotten confused. I'm not arguing.

Yeah, I know. I've been in arguments about this before (but understand you're not arguing). I've pretty much given up arguing any more, since you can point that out and they'll go to words in the TOS about excessive usage (never mind that the iPhone is an unlimited plan). They'll also say it's AT&T policy, but no one has ever pasted a link to that policy (from an AT&T source, at least). Anyway, enough about that, since that will just get this thread way off topic.

over here in the UK the plans are sold as 'unlimited' but at the same time have a sort of 'unspoken' limit, which i suppose is best described as frowned upon if you go over this limit.

i have heard a few cases (one being someone i know at work who uses a lot of Gb's streaming live TV on his phone) where customers go over this limit and have been contacted from O2 (network provider). I can only assume this was through luck by an employee accidentally coming across it in the system or something, but it does happen.

im suprised there is no such issue in america (and also jealous). But at the same time im sure if an employee/manager was to review an account with usage as high as some of yours then they would not be happy (whether they do anything about it is a different matter).

I have a 512 MB monthly plan. I usually don′t use it all up. At home it all goes through Wifi and when I′m out I use only some light browsing, email, RSS updates and similar..

24/7 Pandora on 3G unrestrictor will add MBs to your usage with haste. Hooray to unlimited plan w/ high quality music!

My plan has 1.7GB included, and I barely ever hit 1GB of that.

I download all my apps and music over WiFi at home.

I seriously find it hard to use any more than 1GB per months, but I don't tether and don't think I ever would.

Actually I just performed a test. 12 hours straight of pandora only amounts to about 120 MBs in data. If I left it on for say 30 days I'll be using only about 7GB. So I really don't know how people rack up data usage. Let me on the secret please =D.

oh... so nice... I always wondered how much data it really uses but was too lazy to test it by myslef.
Thanks
