I don't really consider myself an alcoholic. But after taking this test Test, which I saw is very similar to the ones of the AA, they definitely think I'm an alcoholic!

Now, I don't consider myself as one (I know, all say this), and I think the test is far from being something to worry about or take too seriously (I mean, the questions 19, 20, 36, 37, 38?)

As for me, I usually drink the weekends and tuesdays with friends. I rarely drink alone (at least I've never got drunk alone). I do drink more than what is "normal" sometimes, specially when going out to a bar/club, but I almost never pass out or have blackouts. I've have them, specially when I was younger (16-20), but now (24) they are rare. Last one was more than 8 months ago.

Anyways, I was curious if I'm more in the normal side or in the "drink more than normal" side. As for the test, I had 5 YES.
The fact you drink until you pass out on occassion is telling

I am 26 and have never come close to passing out. I have only had a hangover twice in my life

You forgot an option.

None.

I don't drink

I am close to that, I've gotten drunk maybe 5 times in my life. It's been about 10 years since I have been drunk. Now I probably drink 2 or 3 times a year when I go out to eat, if I have to wait I might grab a drink at the bar. Never more than 2 drink. I don't have the urge to get drunk.

Was this poll for "at a time" or "for a lifetime"? ;) OP, please take the time to get the question and context right. If there is a language barrier, my apologies.

I drink 1 beer, infrequently 2, which is usually a couple times a month.

Well, I'm indeed not from an english speaking country.;)

The question is regarding the test in the link I shared, not the amount of drinks you have. As for how to count the number of YES, then I guess it is a lifetime. It's how I feel the test asks the questions at least.

i rarely drink anymore. I had 2 yesterday during the Superbowl and that was the 1st time since Christmas.

Drank more in high school - almost every weekend.
Slowed down in university when I realized I had alot of money to payback with student loans so didn't want to blow it.
Rarely drank after and still don't.

Last time I got hammered was in Jamaica and although it was fun, I was sick for almost 2 days after.

Just not worth it.

For the body and the bank account.

My son asked me why I don't drink like my brother-in-law.

My response: b/c I don't want to see my hard earned money literally get p*ssed away :)

Well to me, that's the problem. In Australia, a Yamazaki 12 y.o. is roughly $90, while Glenlivet 12 is around $45. I don't really like the Glenlivet 12, but if I'm willing to splurge and get a $90 bottle, I can get something that I feel is better for $60-80 (e.g. Highland Park for $65).

I agree with that reasoning. Highland Park is better than both, although around here the Yamazaki runs about $50. I'm not a fan of 12 year Glen Livet but their 16 year Nadurra is very nice. Still, down your way that might run over a hundred I'm not sure. It cost me I think $75 or 90 or somewhere in between.

Yeah, pricing in Australia is worse than in America, but it isn't better or worse than a place like Canada. It's just different.

For example, Highland Park 12 y.o. costs around $65 in Australia, but would cost me $75-80 in Canada, which I think is crazy. However, a bottle of Blanton's Bourbon will cost me $45 here (or $40 on sale), but the same would cost me $60-65 in Canada.

It's incredible that you can get the Yamazaki 12 y.o. for $50 in the US. I think that may be cheaper than Japanese prices.

I like to mix vintage cocktails when I can come up with the elusive proper ingredients. I like to sip the occasional good whiskey, gin or rum. Even had some absinth. Would like to go to a place where you go through the proper ritual.

Scotch is very interesting, but awfully expensive!

This is all too expensive for me to do that much of, so it keeps me down to a moderate amount.

edit: to answer the title question - probably 2-3 drinks on the weekend but it varies. Sometimes I'll go a month or two without a drink, I guess because I didn't feel like it. Other times I'll have a few drinks in one night. I'm never drunk drunk [out of control] because I don't like how that feels. I only did that to myself a few times in tweenage™ years and it was purely a mistake in content judgement. (i.e., tequila can sneak up on you)

That a very flawed quiz. Sure it points out some things which could be red flags but there are limits to what an online test can correctly identify, such as the damaging compulsive urge an alcoholic has to drink. Answering yes to a few of those does not guarantee you're an alcoholic.

I'm definitely not an alcoholic and those same 5 questions are at least partially a yes for me. (never fully blacked out but I've certainly had a foggy memory.) And OF COURSE alcohol helps bring social ease and you bet your ass you feel remorse and poor concentration when you're nursing a hangover.

Mostly I think the relevance is that if you're having to ask yourself if something is a problem then it probably is. If you can't seem to stop yourself even knowing it's negatively affecting your life then it's definitely a problem.

I'm surprised a moderator hasn't added an option for those of us whom don't drink alcohol. It'd be nice to have an unofficial tally.

I have added an "I don't drink" option now. We can't follow all threads and posts so the best way is to report the thread and ask for a new poll option to be added.

Yes to 36, 37, and 38. That was a while ago though, now I only drink a little bit on the weekend when I'm with friends.

I don't drink. I don't know why, I just don't like the taste of alcohol. Probably why I don't get invited anywhere.

I never drink a bottle in my life.

I've take a sip before, but I just didn't like the taste

The store I bought it at is a discount liquor spot. In retrospect it may have been on sale, but I don't think it was..

Gave up drinking about 5 years ago. Never was a heavy drinker, just occasional. It was so occasional that I even wondered why I drank. Hence the giving it up.
