If I had a single alarm I'd get up and turn it off without knowing it. This is a must for me to get up in the mornings. To answer your question more directly, let's just put it this way......

I sleep about 4-5 hours a night and wake up without a problem. A good diet will help your body be less drowsy. People who sleep too much, generally, have extremely poor diets.

I think you're going to have back that up with some sources of facts...

The facts are indeed there but not correctly written. I think it's more along the line of if people have poor diets, then they usually worse sleeping habits (ie. long, restless, etc.).

If you eat well, and get your 5 a day, then generally you feel less drowsy and more energetic.

I guess being hydrated helps too.

I use my iPhone and my TV as an alarm.

I set two alarms on my phone, 15 minutes apart, one to wake up, and the other get me out of bed and start getting ready. My TV turns on a minute before my first alarm, and is set to a super high volume, forcing me to find the remote in my bed and turn it down. During the 15 minutes between alarms, I watch the local news and check facebook, twitter, and macrumors.
