I read somewhere that it will start at $1,999. :D

Seriously though, I doubt you will see a price drop or additional memory for cheaper. It is not exactly like sales are slow.

Remember the UK has it's VAT going up to 20% in the new year.

For American's here, that's 20% Sales Tax.

Fancy that do you?

And that's AFTER you have paid about 25% - 30% of your actual wages away in Tax (Income tax and National insurance) to the state which gets taken from you automatically.

:(

With the current political climate here in the US, we won't be far behind you....:(

Most likely, Apple will follow the same pricing strategy for iPhone and iPod Touch. Hence:

16GB iPad 1 WiFi for $399

16GB iPad 2 WiFi for $499 and so on

Perhaps Apple will increase the base memory to 32GB, but I wouldn't be surprised if they start with 16GB again for iPad 2.

It all depends on the market Apple are after.

They don't normally go after the mass market too much with their computers, but perhaps they may wish to this time?

It's a given fact that there are way more people who can't justify the price of an iPad than can justify the price.

I know we can tend to forget such things on these forums :)

Over 310 million people in the USA alone, so still a large market out there.

If Apple don't scoop a lower price level of users up, then Android will in time.

I'd love to see great high end models packed with goodies, but I'd also like to see Apple make a base, level entry model that did all the basics but was build to be as cheap as they can make it. Perhaps a plastic body?

Just something to get people onto the ladder as it were.

But as I say, Apple don't usually do that, preferring to stay at the higher end and let others go for the lower end mass market.

Then go get a Kmart or Walgreens tablet special. Lighthouse or Light in the Box (Some online company, the exact name escapes me) has plenty of cheap Android tablets that don't have a mike, nor a mike jack, yet come preinstalled with Skype and Android 1.6. Real classy.

Galaxy Tab cost more than the 16gig iPad, so that's out of the question.

Cheap crap is just that... Crap.

I think it would cost a little bit higher than the 1st gen for as we all know apple is not really into lowering their products prices.

???? Ipods and MB Airs never came down in price ???

I guess free health care isn't so free after all now, is it?

It costs £197 OSLT to make the iPhone 4.

It cost £250 OSLT to male the iPad 16gb

If they make the 32gb the starting iPad at £499, then they'll lose too much money, as the 32gb costs £300 OSLT.

Therefore, they won't remove the 16gb; but they may add another iPad, for an extra £100, at 128gb

Never has been free.

It's classed as Free at the point of delivery.

Meaning I can go to the doctor and if he thinks I have a condition that needs hospital care/surgery I will get booked in and have all the medical work done without me having to pay a penny.

As I pay toward it, and always have done in my tax's from my job.

It's better this way as you never are at the point in not being able to have to worry how to afford an operation.

Unless of course, it's something like cosmetic which is your choice to have done.

Identical to current prices with spec boosts.

Seriously, the 8gig Touch4 went up $50 compared to the previous one here in Canada, so with Retina, camera and all, there might be a small increase on iPad2 as well.
That would be because the previous one was a second generation iPod touch, only the 32 and 64GB models were actually the third generation; only fourth generation iPod touches are offered now.

Not sure I understand your prices.

How much extra does it cost Apple for the 32GB memory chip/s than it does the 16GB memory chip.

That's the only price difference to take into consideration.

Apple don't HAVE to make more profit.

Example. And I will make up the numbers.

Say their buy the 16GB chip from the manufacturer for $30 and they tack on $20 clear profit for themselves, so the customer pays $50 for this component.

The 32GB chip costs Apple $50, they could still only add on $20 clear profit for this item and charge the customer $70 for this component.

So this one change would only make a $20 difference in cost to the whole product.

They don't have to tack on even more profit for this component.

You get what you pay for.

iPad..even at existing prices...is worth every penny.

Whilst I agree the iPad is a great product.

I'd not really agree that in all cases when it comes to buying things you get what you pay for.

With many items you pay a lot more due to the items brand and the way it's presented and the market place FEEL about the item than anything related to the physical item itself.
