my family used to raise pigs when I was a kid down at the farm. stopped doing it when it wasn't profitable enough. i remember not being able to stand the smell of it all... :D

How much does it cost to buy a pig?

The answer to your quesion is: All that he had.
The actual number shows he was wealthy as most people are shown as only haveing one living in poverty. He had a great amount or as you say 2000. He lost everything. The cost of sin.

But if you still insist, the average cost of a pig is
Source of price information
Pigmeat price is based on a South East Queensland buyer's average baconer prices. Feed price is a commercial stockfeed manufacturers bulk price delivered Toowoomba district for pig grower/finisher feeds. The prices quoted by other pigmeat processors and feed sources may vary, but overall trends and conclusions should be similar.

PS: Thank you for post # 499. ;)

There is something to be said, for having food that stares back at you

I prefer my food in normal cuts, not whole. Its a complete turn off to see even a whole fish. :apple:

My question was slightly wrong. I meant how much is a pig worth to a farmer when they sell it?

I don't actually want to buy a pig though I was reading a passage in the bible in Mark 5 where Jesus casts out many deamons from a deamon possessed man into a herd of about 2000 pigs. The local people then pleaded with Jesus to leave.

I just wondered how much those pigs might be worth to the people of the time, which might show why they wanted to get rid of jesus.

Cheers.

Best. Post. Ever.

I was expecting an interesting thread. Then I read that someone wants to know the price of a pig now because of a story in the bible about jesus and pigs. Further, how exactly would our current currency be converted (as people have said before)?

When you were typing this thread with your purpose in mind, was there any point during which your internal voice went , "Ya know, agp, this is a pretty ridiculous question to be asking."?

No?

I've just found this thread when...

I've just found this thread when looking for the cost of a hog to base a business model on... It's both entertaining and scary!!!

Jesus, sold for how many pigs? lol! Are there really people who worry about that ***** when the world is where it is??? I must start reading religious stuff at night so that I don't have to worry about the real ***** I have to deal with haha!

Anyway... I am serious about putting together a proposal based on Hog Roasting so any up to date prices would be appreciated

Yeah... this is a weird thread....

To answer your question... don't you think you might have better luck calling your local farmer's association/agricultural station? This is like calling the department of agriculture and asking when the new Mac Pros are coming out? And despite the obvious hog connection (think 'hogs' and 'wings') this may not be the best place. You have not even let people know where you are.... the price of a hog is going to be different in Vancouver than Saskatchewan which will be different again in PEI. And you may not even be in Canada for all I know.

But, you know, good luck with the quest....
