I don't actually want to buy a pig though I was reading a passage in the bible in Mark 5 where Jesus casts out many deamons from a deamon possessed man into a herd of about 2000 pigs. The local people then pleaded with Jesus to leave.

I just wondered how much those pigs might be worth to the people of the time, which might show why they wanted to get rid of jesus.

Those pig herders weren't Jews (Jews consider pigs to be unclean animals), so they weren't gonna drink the Kool-aide the Son of God was selling. That and causing the loss of several tons of bacon would put you on anyone blacklist.;)

PS. Good Gawd! I didn't realize how old this thread was... Bejesus casting out the demons must have been a current event when this thread started.:p

I'm not for sale.

You are not the sow's ear; you my dear are the silk purse. ;)

Out of all the threads to be necro'd (twice no less) this should be it. It's based on a really obscure and silly question (would have been gold if it was the OP's first post but it's not), posts by classic and notable MR members (like Mad Jew), and delicious puns o' plenty.

Let us feed at the trough of nostalgia on this one. :)

I wouldn't admit to reading the bible in this forum, you will get flamed.

That being said, I applaud you for reading it.

I see nothing wrong with religious, just don't sell it to me.

My question was slightly wrong. I meant how much is a pig worth to a farmer when they sell it?

in the UK...

Sorry, I didn't make that point clear, but I'm in the UK (Dorset) so I'm sure Canadian prices will differ somewhat from ours. And yes your right I should consult my local farmers (lol... Stupid!!!). Still I thought it was worth posting as this was No.2 on google's results and provided me with a laugh.

I hadn't realized you were coming to this from a Google search... that is kinda funny, eh?

Have I missed something lol!

And over here you can buy a pig for not much more than a good pint of beer! It is however the cost of a hog I was looking for which, following a chat with the local butcher seems to be around £120/$160 per butchered animal.
