Everyone is so excited about how Lion is only $30... if you download it from the App Store. What if you don't? Is there any mention anywhere of how much it costs otherwise?

I have a computer I never bothered to upgrade from Leopard, so it doesn't have the App Store. If I want to put Lion on it, how much will it cost?

Will I have to buy Snow Leopard for it first? Seems kinda stupid to have to run it through a whole OS upgrade just so I can... run it through another OS upgrade.

I am assuming Apple will also have a DVD version of Lion, but I haven't seen any indication of cost. If it's more than $60, then I guess I do have to do the stupid double upgrade.

Yep, your out of luck. Go pickup Snow Leopard and make sure you Software Update so you can update to 10.6.8 and after your on that OS you can upgrade to OS X Lion for $29.99 out of the App Store. Sorry Man.:(

Everybody keeps saying this guy is out of luck, but unless I missed something, which is possible, nobody has acknowledged my suggestion to just take it to an Apple store if there is one. The obviously have Lion on hard disks, and the geniuses should be able to hook this guy up, no?

Well, round-trip, that's 2 hours plus the time to do the install (if they actually help) plus the cost of gas. Not sure that's better than doing the triple-install.

I can't be the only person in the world who has a Leopard Mac that I'd like to upgrade to Lion. I'm hoping Apple has some sort of better plan than that.

You're not. I skipped Snow Leopard because it seemed like a minor update and I was not ready to upgrade my machines in the middle of a major project, especially considering the setup time for the virtual machine I have to run. I wouldn't mind paying $60 (or even more) to avoid being forced to do the triple update. Once updated I'll have the Mac App Store in iTunes anyway, so Apple isn't really losing anything there anyway. Not sure why they are making it this hard.......
