Atomic Web can take care of that issue for the iPad 1.

Yes it's much better although if you switch between apps they will still reload occasionally.

It's definitely better. Not just that multiple tabs will stay stable, but switching between them when you have 6 or 7 open is seamless whereas on the first gen I'd find it would lag a lot.

No, they still refresh, maybe not as much. Still get checkerboards too.
