It going to be fast but not super fast .

Like others here said CPU ( i7 quad core ivy bridge ) be 30% faster and video card 50% faster .And 8 GB of RAM and 1 TB hard drive.Do not know how much faster USB 3 is over USB 2.

USB 3.0 is significantly faster then USB 2.0. At this point with Intel supporting USB 3.0 natively, I don't see the point in buying anything with USB 2.0.

I believe theoretical speeds are 10 times faster then USB 2.0.

12-15% improvement on the benchmarks would be the expected overall performance bump across the board. Worth the wait if they'd upgrade it every year and if they keep it at the same price point(s).

For me it's all about the graphics chip. I need 1gb at least, and I need it on the 21.5-inch model, because I don't have the space for a honkin 27-incher on my desk. A faster processor will just be gravy.

I'm building a new desk top surround for my new 27" iMac, just waiting on Apple to release it in case they decide to change the design, which is unlikely until next year.

I need at least 1Tb HDD but might spec it with 2Tb, hoping Apple will include 8Gb of RAM (two 4Gb) so I can up it to 16Gb later without having to dump the other RAM. Better video would be goof but not crucial. USB3 and Ivy Bridge is what I'm waiting for so it will be up-to-date and last me longer. Also option for a Matte screen would be nice but not a deal breaker.

Also tossing up whether to get a Time Capsule or a good WD USB3 HDD for backing up.

Doing backups over wifi takes forever!! Either use a wired connection or use an external drive directly connected to your mac.

But once you have the first backup complete the Time Machine shouldn't take that long to backup each hour after that?

Either way I was planing to use the ether hub to split between 2 computers, wired not wireless. My other option is like I said the USB3 WD HDD, it's a little more expensive than the cheap WD model but might be worth it for backing up and USB3 should make that first backup much quicker!

Apple PLEASE release the new iMac so I can give you money and buy one!

How much faster would new iMac be than the old one to make worth the wait for most people.

Most likely when apple brings out new iMac it be 8GB RAM , i7 quad core ivy bridge , 1TB hard-drive and some may be option for SSD. Better video card and may be some model retina display:eek:

So other than the retina display it probably be 30% faster base on those spects and past history of apple.

I do not understand these questions - the simple answer is NOBODY KNOWS at the moment because nothing has been released or even talked about. It sounds like something out of desperation.

Put it like this, there will almost definitely be a new iMac, it's a popular machine. Will it be better than a currently available model - of course it will!

It better be more than 12-15% improvement in speed .The macbook pro are alot faster than this.

Yes even 20% is unacceptable.

It better be more like 30% to 60% to make it worth it for most people.

The spects will be the same has the macbook pro or may be little bit better. There is no way the iMac will have spects less than the macbook pro that will just be very silly .

Built myself an iMac with a custom PC, couldn't be happier.
Faster and cheaper than the most powerful mac.

Cheaper yes... Faster?... doubtful.

I get a geekbench score of 8000+ on a hackintosh PC I built back in 2008 for £800. It is currently running Lion 10.7.3.

It runs absolutely as silky smooth and as good as my late 2011 15" mbp (which I bought after liking my first ever experience with OSX last July with my hackintosh).

I convinced my parents to buy an iMac back in January and have had them waiting for an update before they buy.

My hackintosh uses 5 hard drives; one for backup, one for music projects, one for itunes and movies, one for work, photo's, design, video's and one for windows for games.

I want to buy an iMac maybe next year but I'm hoping for easy integration of all my hard drive data. A mac pro would be good but they are overpriced.

USB3, updated GPU, cooler and faster Ivy Bridge (I'll be doing design work and 3D rendering on it when I visit) are the reason to wait for the updated iMac for my parents.

My current iMac is a 3.4 Ghz I7 / 16 GB Ram / 2GB Video and runs a hello of a lot faster than the one it replaced.

I cannot see a new iMac coming out fast enough to make me want to replace this one.

I mean, that is not to say if one of my 'dream machine' iMacs were released I would not jump on it .... but even I am wise enough to realize my 'dream machine' would never be released ..... though I sort of have plans for fabrication one myself.

Thinking

My late 2009 i7 iMac benches over 10,000.

So i'd need;
more memory
better more powerful video card
thunderbolt/usb3/fw800 if possible too
better bigger internal/external storage options
faster memory
more cores and threads
