Makes sense though, doesn't it? I'm a parent, and I'm paying say 10-15k a year to send my child to a school I don't want them coming home with 60's (C's), I want them coming home with 80's + (A's). I know several people who went to private schools most of their lives, and then went to a public school their last year or two of high school. They got the freshmen fifteen early, their grades plummeted.

Grades don't matter :p Really, they don't. I'm in college right now, and if you saw my resume, you'll probably be scratching your head as to why I didn't even make it to the top 25% of my graduating class.

Their grades could have plummeted because the private school's grading system was too lenient. Every school has different standards, and an "A" in one school could be a "D" in another. Or, it could have been the shock; It's not easy being a 16-year-old and suddenly changing environments and going away from friends. It could have been that the public school wasn't good, but you don't know for sure. And even if that particular public school were to blame for their poor grades and fattiness, it doesn't say much about the thousands of other public schools in the nation.

Grades matter to an extent. You can't get into University with 60s, you just can't. They won't let you in.

Mine is a bout 5K a year for one person, but with two kids... and eventually 3 in about 2 years, it'll be tough on the 'rents. :(

Not exactly true. With ASU, you can just pass all of your HS classes (D's), you just need to have a certain score on your SATs or ACTs to get in (though to be fair, they're going to be changing this soon if they already haven't).

wow. 14K for an midiocer education. Our school is about $300. And that's probebly one of the most expensive schools in our school board.

I would nenver pay 12K for a high school education. I would pay like $500 at most.

My high school was ranked 51st by newsweek, but i really don't think its that great, and three of the four high schools in my county were ranked in the top 51 (Yorktown (51st), HB-Woodlawn (5th), Washington Lee (44th).)

Why would people spend that much on a HIGHSCHOOL education? Save all that for highER educations... That's the stuff that really matters, and that you will really enjoy.

$14k a year sounds cheap for a high school to me. I was lucky enough to go to a private school over here and we paid through the nose.

Uni costs over here are only £1k-£3k so about $2000-$6000. That's for UK citizens though, you US folk would have to pay more to come here.

I don't know about private schools in the US but over here I've seen several private schools that charge only about $10k a year that are on a par with the local state schools. The only real advantage seems to be the advice they can give and the help with the University application process.
