I'm still waiting for Friday to put my hands on the PM and decide to keep it or not.

Having had the 12 Pro for a few weeks, while I do like the size of it I feel like it could use more battery. The two main reasons for me going Max for the first time is the camera and battery - but I may be willing to compromise and stick with the 12 Pro if the cameras are truly not a game changer.

I have had every plus/Max iPhone and really wanted to downsize. I’m past the return period for the pro, but I’m also interested in the Max for the better camera and battery life.

As much as I’d like the minor gains, I believe the size trumps it for me. I have no doubt the faster shutter speed will be excellent but the 12P feels sharper and bigger than my 11P already. I couldn’t go with the Max. Happy that it’s not a huge day and night difference.

While the 12 Pro Max camera will be better than the 11 Pro I don’t believe it will be a game changer
Apples big feature this year is 5G. Which as many people now know it’s in its infancy
Even in big Cities it’s selective at best meaning on one block you have 5G and the next block doesn’t have 5G. Even if your getting 5G the speed it’s nothing to rave about. IN time to come I’m sure it will be better

But in the area where the camera is, there is no difference in size. They are just as then as one another. From what I understand the camera housing is the same. Has been for several years.
Looping back to this, I was a bit surprised by the Techcrunch and John Gruber reviews that the cameras are significantly much deeper/taller/more protruding. So much so that the Apple leather case has an extra lip to protect the cameras, and therefore it no longer lies flat!

From Gruber, iPhone 12 Pro:

Goodness! That looks like quite a significant difference. I curious to receive it on Friday now, and I wonder if it will lie flat with the Spiegen clear case I've bought.

The max camera is definitely not a game changer compared to the Pro and even compared to the regular 12

Yeah I saw that. Very interesting! I did not think Apple would do something like that. Usually they make the phone thicker to cover that up more. I hope your case covers it up.

The reviews were a lot of fun to watch. A lot of good information. I am glad I confirmed my choice of the 12 pro.

Almost none unless it’s dark. Otherwise, you won’t see any difference.

In the photography world, 47% isn’t actually that much. It’s half a stop! The sensor is still tiny, and you just won’t see the benefit under good, or just half-decent, lighting conditions. Even when conditions are poor, Apple’s HDR and other software trickery improve the situation so that the bad lighting isn’t bad.

Half a stop of extra sensitivity isn’t a lot.

Me too! The fact that it doesn't lie flat naked bugs me a little, so if it protrudes even from the case...well I might be in the market for another case!

Camera comparison vs. Samsung and Huawei
This is really good video, thanks for sharing. This might sound like stating the obvious, but gosh we live in an age of wonders - all three of these phones take absolutely terrific pictures. I have no interest in the Android ecosystem at present, but those are fantastic cameras, each with interesting strengths and with few real weaknesses.

I have an empty Pro Max case sitting in front of me. The "lip" around the camera bump seems pretty big, so I'm sure Apple accounted for this in their cases. I'll find out Friday.

Hey, now you mention it, I've noticed the same on my Spiegen Ultra Hybrid case - it has a lip around the camera bump, and therefore doesn't lie flat. Huh.

Yeah I would want a thick case to keep it from protruding out.

Best camera comparison yet! It's clear the IPhone 12 Pro Max has an amazing camera system.
Thank you for the link. I really enjoy his videos (just saw him for the first time yesterday) (yes, I live under a rock sheltering me most of the time from iPhone video reviews). He's very good at helping the viewer "see."

Meanwhile, only three more days until my new Pro Max!

Yeah he makes great videos. The only thing he missed really was not testing moving objects of pets and people but if he’s on his own not much he can do about that. The fast shutter speed is where iphone pro max is improved from the 12 pro i believe.

He did cover that in his earlier video about the 12 Pro vs 12 Pro Max. For me, that's a big factor.
