How much RAM are you going with on the new 2012 27-inch iMac?

Default 8GB. There is no point in wasting an additional $120+ for Apple's premium compared to 3rd party vendors. The only minor benefit is for Apple's servicing.

Going with 8 GB, upgrading to 64 GB 1 month later when we will probably find out "OMFG, apple lied to us about memory upgradability again!!!!!"

Why is that so many of you go with Crucial and OWC? As for me, I always stick with Corsair. Extremely reliable and the lifetime warranty cannot be beat.

Will add 8GBx2 for a total of 24GB: http://goo.gl/f0seU

My supposition is that the Apple installed 4GBx2 RAM will be populating the primary slots.
Would you agree that the two newly purchased modules should take the primary slots and the 4x2 modules take the remaining slots?

For me, I've just had positive results with Crucial over the years.
Who sells Corsair/how is it branded?

Corsair is a pretty major brand in the custom PC scene. It is definitely one of the most trusted brands, but that usually comes at a premium price.

They are their own company, thus, their products are sold through their personal website, New Egg, Tiger Direct and also websites like Amazon.

They don't just make RAM. They also make computer cases, power supplies, SSD's and much more. I have built a plethora of custom built PC's over the years and definitely prefer corsair.

That's the RAM sitting in my iMac now and I love it.

going with stock 8 and upgrading later to 32GB from corsair

Good man!

This will be my first iMac after spending almost 10 years with Windows PC's.

I'll be ordering the entry level 27 inch which will have the 8 GB ram.

Before the new iMac was announced, I was planning on installing 16 GB in the last gen iMac to give me 20 GB of ram. With the new iMac, I'll still be installing 16 GB or ram but in the new iMac I'll have 24 GB.

Ram is really cheap and the amount I'll be installing should be enough for now and for the life of the iMac, I'm planning on having the iMac, 5 or ideally 6 years before I get another.

Good man!
Where is it priced most affordable, can you link me?

Ordering 8Gb of RAM and will do no RAM upgrade since I think I'm really comfortable with 8Gb!

24... no need to dump the factory installed 2 x 4GB. With my 27" iMac not shipping until January, is there a reason to buy my Crucial (or other 3rd party) RAM now?

I'm doing what most people in here are doing.. Going for the 8gb and adding in myself another 16gb for a total of 24gb. Saves me a bit of cash so it's a win in my opinion.

Not sure if you are being serious but the i series processors are limited to 32 gigs of ram. Check out intel's spec sheets here.

I was going to buy 1x8gb card and add it to the 2 already there to make 16 then up to 24 if needed.

I did not think you coud do 2x4 and 1x8 but the chap from crucial said that's cool so I will go for that at a mere £29.99 delivered

I didn't see anyone else comment on this. If you add a single card, it will not benefit from the maximum speed potential. I can't speak to how much it ill impact performance, but it is something you should be aware of. The RAM should be installed in matched pairs.

p.s. I will eventually add 16 more, taking me to 24.

I'm thinking of adding 2x8 to the installed 2x4 for a total of 24GB. 16GB in my current iMac never gets used up, and the extra 8 should help for future needs.

Could i buy 2 x 8Gb ram and put it with the 8Gb of ram that comes as standard with the 27" iMac? Or would i have to buy 4 x gb ram and remove the standard ram?
