I have 5GB in my Mac Pro right now, but I'm saving for two more 2GB sticks. When I manage to get them, I'll use four 2GB sticks and try to sell the two 512MB sticks that originally came with the machine.

My other Macs:

MacBook - 512MB, but 2GB is on the way
2 MDDs - 2GB each
Pismo 900 - 1GB
iBook 900 - 640MB

1 gig in my tibook. I don't think I need more. I'm sure software companies and Apple will come out with new programs that will require me to buy a new system so that I can run what's current. For the moment I'll stick it out in the low end till one of these programs is required for my classes.

On my MacBook Pro that I'm getting on Wednesday it will have 2GB of RAM. I only have 768MB of RAM on my iBook G4 which is not nearly enough.

2GB in my PB, 1GB in my MBP (not upgrading as im swapping for a Mac Pro) and of course 2GB in the Mac Pro.....for starters. I envisage maxing out to 6GB in the future on that one.

I just dont see myself ever using 512MB again even in XP/Linux. 1GB is my bare minimum.

i dnt understand what anybody would need 8gb of ram for...

6GB is barley enough for me. At any given time I'm doing "work" and "Play".

Work requires Parallels open running XP using 2GB. (MSSQL stuff), along with Firefox, MS Remote Desktop and several terminal windows.

Play is typically Aperture, Final Cut Express, Logic Express, iTunes, mail, Firefox, Adium and sometimes Photoshop.

My Mac Pro replaced two Windows PC's. So yes, I do make the most of it.

5GB - 2x512 stock + 2x2GB from maxupgrades. Will probably sell the 2x512 in a couple of months and spring for another 2x2GB (God willing the price will have dropped a little).
