Apple gets is "Thin" syndrome for design in its products, from Steve Jobs himself, along with Jonathan Ive.

Alot of what Apple does, is "hidden Buddhism" influenced.

Anyone notice the beta Desktop Wallpaper for the Lion preview? well there is your example.

The one with the lotus flower?

Yup. That's got Buddhism written all over it. Just google Lotus Flower

FROM WIKIPEDIA:
Most Buddhist, Chinese, Hindu, Japanese, and other Asian deities are depicted as seated on a lotus flower. In Buddhist symbolism, the lotus represents purity of the body, speech, and mind as if floating above the muddy waters of attachment and desire. According to legend[citation needed], Gautama Buddha was born with the ability to walk, and lotus flowers bloomed everywhere he stepped.

In the classical written and oral literature of many Asian cultures the lotus is present in figurative form, representing elegance, beauty, perfection, purity and grace, being often used in poems and songs as an allegory for ideal feminine attributes. In Sanskrit the word lotus (padma पद्म) has many synonyms. Since the lotus thrives in water, ja (denoting birth) is added to synonyms of water to derive some synonyms for the lotus, like ambuja (ambu= water + ja=born of), neeraj (neera=water + ja= born of), pankaj, pankaja, kamal, kamala, kunala, aravind, arvind, nalin, nalini and saroja[6] and names derived from the lotus, like padmavati (possessing lotuses) or padmini (full of lotuses).[7] These names and derived versions are often used to name girls, and to a lesser extent boys, in India, Nepal and Sri Lanka, as well as in many other countries influenced by Indic culture, like Thailand, Cambodia, Indonesia and Laos.

Drawing in turn on these beliefs, the international Bahá'í community adopted this symbolism in the design of the Lotus Temple in New Delhi, India.

I'm very content with the thickness of the MBP. It also is thick enough to allow 12mm high capacity hard drives like the WD 1TB drive so for those that have lots of data and want to store everyone on their laptop it is now possible

I know about the Lotus Flower in Buddhism. But what does the "Thin"-syndrome have to do with Buddhism?

The thin Buddha is Siddhartha Gautama (circa Sixth Century BCE), also called Gautama Buddha, Shakyamuni Buddha or the Historical Buddha.

The "Fat Buddha" is the Chinese depiction of the Future Buddha known as Maitreya Buddha or sometimes Maitreya Bodhisattva. He is also considered to be a Jizo or Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva. Still, this figure is NOT the historic Buddha. And when Buddhist think of Buddha, it is the slender Indian figure that comes to mind.

Thats why his company loves thinness! America and other Geek western influenced countries teach their people ignorance to some degree, thats why most western civilizations think Buddha is Fat, but if you were to ask someone who is a real follower of their fake belief they will say Buddha is slim/slender.

The fat Buddha represents prosperity and wealth, the Thin Buddha represents the wisdom and enlightenment of the same person. Apple views itself as wise and enlightened, thats why Steve Jobs downplays the fact that his company doesn't view themselves as a High revenue company that's only about profit aka fat money making company (look at his D8 interview).... I just want you to know that most of what Apple (Steve Jobs) does is based on Buddhism, they obviously won't say that though. The iPhone is a perfect example of Steve buddha beliefs implemented into a product design, same with the MBA etc...

Not a lot according to some crude PS job:

Thickness is ok the way it is. I would just dump the optical drive and use the space for extra battery and better heat distribution. It gets a bit too hot on the lap.

Apple should do away with the 13"pro and make the 13" MacBook a pro-sumer laptop, the Air will replace the macbook market..... the 15" & 17" should be strictly geared towards the pros (video, photography, design, science etc..).. The pro's want a pro machine so give them that at the pro premium price.

That would be the best scenario for Apple

They would have to either taper it like the Air (no thanks) or remove the ethernet port (no thanks).
Leave it as it is please Apple.

Although it was probably patented, Xircom used a fancy pop-out ethernet jack in the early 2000s that allowed them to fit an ethernet port in a PCMCIA card, without needing an external dongle. The card was only about 5mm thick. The one disadvantage was that the ethernet cable fitted in vertically.

Consumer market generates a lot more money than pro market. Apple just goes where the money is. MacBook Pro has never been a real pro machine. A real pro machine is as customizable as possible. You must offer something for every pro. Apple has never given their customers a lot options to choose from. Either you buy this or you don't buy anything.

I can't see Apple moving towards the pro market as they are just moving away from there. Consumers aren't as demanding and they easily outnumber pros

It wouldn't surprise me at all to see the 13" macbook and macbook pro models disappear completely. The cd/dvd drive is going to go the way of the floppy, especially now that the mac app store is here.

Based on how Apple treat its competitors and dictate terms to their customers, I nominate the swastika as a more appropriate wall choice. Its both a buddhist symbol of good luck, and a symbol of oppression.

Also, perhaps Apple should rename the MBA to MacBook Heir. As it highlight Apple design elements that will trickle down to the lower end models.
