Usually when I preview the post, and notice someone else has already answered the question I was about to reply to.

You preview your posts!? I think the only time I preview is if I've manually typed in a tag or to make sure I did everything right if I'm using a tag for the first time.... ;)

I do it about 1-2 times daily. Of course given my current post rate that would require me to be deleting posts that I already have. (It helps to keep about half your posting in the PRSI and/or console gaming forums and not post your first 2 years signed up).

Usually the delete happens because I start typing my reply while worked up about the topic and then realize that either it's too inflammatory, or not accurately portraying the emotion behind it. Sometimes it's meant to be humorous but gets lost when typed/read, sometimes it's just too wide open for misinterpretation.

I've gone about 3 times now at starting the same thread in the PRSI forum where I have most of the first post typed and then think better of it. Someday you might see that thread (if your lucky enough to be here before I ask a mod to delete it).

Hey, we're all human, and we all make mistakes. I sometimes have this great idea going, then I realize that the whole premise behind the idea is flawed and back out of the post in question :p

That's usually what makes me not submit something I've typed here.

I was only kiddin', but yeah, I regretted it the moment I hit the submit button :)

Sometimes I'll start responding to a post, but then my response starts to seem like it would take too long to write so I say to myself "eh, why bother... this is not worth my time" and cancel it.

i always preview my posts no matter what...i'm kind of compulsive about it, i guess.

i voted "almost never", because sometimes i start to type a reply and i just think, "you know...i'm being a littly catty right now and that's probably not a good idea." don't want to make enemies! ;)

I do sometimes, although not a lot. Only when I don't feel as though I am giving valid information or I don't know enough about the topic to voice my opinion on it.

I voted "not usually" but when I do it's because I gave a stupid answer or didn't read all the other reply's .......

Not usually, but on rare occasion I have, and it has usually been because I felt either I was reponding with too sharp a tone and/or was too tired to mess with the soothing filter, or I had no dog in the fight and didn't want to grab one by the ears, so I bailed.

Like someguy, sometimes I'm tired and can't put my thoughts together properly, so I end up canceling a post that I think just looks stupid.

I don't often cancel a post because I feel I've gone "over the line". I do end up rewriting a number of them because of that, though.

And finally, sometimes I'll read what I've written and decide that I'm not saying anything that someone else hasn't already said, better, earlier in the thread. In these cases I'll either give my assent to someone else's thoughts, or cancel my post altogether.

I figure that, overall, I probably cancel less than 10% of my posts.

Why would you even begin typing if you had no
*smirk*

I can count the number of times I've cancelled on my one hand.

I'm loud, opinionated, but honest in my feelings. Love me or hate me.

About 70% of the time due to a short attention span. I'll type in a few words, get distracted by something shiny then by the time I've come back to the post I've lost interest.

I used to do this a lot more in the beginning-- I'd hit reply, start typing, and would just close the window. :p

Then I went into a phase when I'd hit reply, type up my thoughts, hit preview, and then close the window.

These days? I try not to even hit reply if I really don't think I'll go through with the post. I still always hit preview, and I still do end up not submitting quite a few posts everyday, though.

...some of my more velvety fans think twice before replying to my posts. ;) :D

Hmmm...

How often do I cancel a post? Rarely.
How often do I lurk without posting at all? Sometimes.

Each and every one of my posts is a gift to you all. :D ;)

Seriously though, it's not often that I censor myself while posting. If there's a whole bunch of formatting in the post or if I get carried away with overly long sentences, with too many sub-clauses and the like, I'll preview it to see if my gibberish actually makes sense.

I usually edit posts immediately after posting to clear up punctuation and spelling if I've been a bit slack, and I do delete my own posts if I'm the fourth person in a row to offer the same advice in a problem-shooting thread. Some people here are very quick to respond to threads and sometimes, when you're thinking about what to write, others have got there before you while you're still writing...

But on the whole, I just write what comes into my head as most people do. It depends on the thread, though. For me, graphics forum posts are usually more considered, community ones less so.

Never.

I word my posts for maximum impact and then press the submit button. Kind of like the guy on the submarine when he presses the red button to launch a torpedo. I imagine most of you people get knocked out of your chairs after reading my posts. :p

Sometimes, like when I realize that what I have just written is so useless to the OP that it could be classified as the "most useless post at MacRumors.com".

Like in this math thread
It was so useless what I was about to post that I prefer not to say it.

Well now you got me curious! ;)
