How often do you check your watch over, for dings/scratches or damage?

I used to be pretty precious about my watch and phone. Not so much these days. The watch holds up remarkably well for the couple of years I keep them and the phone goes back to Apple every year, so it doesn’t matter if it’s gets a bit banged up.

I use to have crippling OCD and with cleaning/germs.. from the age of 14-20 and then I snapped out of it and became a bit of a slob which is really odd and I can’t understand how I’ve gone from one extreme to the next.

I don’t have a watch but I’m obsessed with keep my phone and more so my laptop pristine condition. I carry a microfibres and am constantly dusting it down and nearly a year later its still mint.

I used to care a lot more than I do now. I also used to work in a lab with soil and rocks, so my watch was in a lot more danger of scratches. While there, I used a case to protect the edges of the screen and watch. Since then, I've learned not to worry about it; I have never sold any of my watches (one was destroyed in a motorcycle accident so that one's framed - it helped save my life) so the value when I'm done with them isn't important to me. I get a lot of value out of the data it produces, and I'll upgrade every few years if new features seem worthwhile. Might switch to the Ultra series at some point, though I'm not super convinced I want a watch that large... Always preferred small watches.
 
I do a manual job delivering where my wrist /hand /arm is forever hitting stuff and the best thing about my Watch Ultra 2 compared to my previous 8 - not one scratch, ding or mark on it in over 6months of almost 24/7 use.

The previous watch I would sometimes take off if I was loading the van - this one I dont even worry about anymore.
 
Almost never. I just don't do anything that would damage it. Plus, as Howard 2K said, the Ultra is pretty tough.
 
Used to whenever I bumped it when really new. Now it has some scratches, but it's old, so I can live a happy carefree life.

It's not a Ming vase: so it'll be new and shiny and I'll be super careful for a bit, but then if I was that worried about it I'd never wear it which would miss the point in it. Then inevitably it'll get scratched one day, but even if I never wear it and treat it with kid gloves, it's hi-tech so will be in the (hopefully recycling) bin within 5-8ish years (if I buy it enough replacement battieries and it doesn't just end up in a drawer until the batteries make it start bulging!

Anything tech related will age fast and never be a family heirloom. So I'm a realist. I can bet even people who bought the first edition super expensive gold version of the Apple Watch definitely aren't using it any more, even if they're trying to keep it more as a collectable.

It looks a bit scuffed round the sides these days with a couple of scratches on the screen you only notice if you;'re purposefully looking. But if I break it now 5 years in, it's more an excuse for a new one. I don't want it to get damged, but I'll happily go mountain biking with it and not be too worried I'll crash. I'm more worried about the phone in my bag getting the screen rubbed with grit, so that has a pop on cover.

Much as I love shiny new things, I also love not having to worry when they've got a bit older and gained a few scratches.

Barely ever unless I smack it on a wall or drop it.

Occasionally I’ll take my phone out of the case and remove dust. I usually admire dings cause it shows it’s being used.

I’d suggest seeing a doctor if you’re so worried about that and feeling sick.

Same here.

Sometimes my Apple Watch bumps into CNC doors, vises and pieces of stock when I’m in the machine shop once a week so I use a case when I’m near these heavy machinery.

Also I sneeze 🤧 with the other elbow instead of my elbow with the Apple Watch on the arm as I sometimes accidentally hit my watch on my big gaming headphones 🎧

Apple Watch Ultra users, here’s a quick question 🙋 for y’all:

Is it true that getting scratches and bruises on the titanium of the watch a sign to remind you of a particular adventure?

Many of y’all wear it from fishing 🎣, kayaking, hiking, 🥾 camping ⛺️, swimming 🏊 and other extreme sports 🏏!

I feel you bro. I never got a stainless steel Apple Watch before because I hate scratches. I could not accept any imperfections at all to the point it became an obstacle in my life. My S7 Titanium was the best purchase of my life because it was so easy to dissimulate scratches with a Scotch-Brite pad. Anyhow, my S10 Nat Titanium is my first polished Apple Watch and I accepted that with time, it will scratch. In the end, there is more important things in life.

I used to worry about scratches and dents on the watch, until I found that Apple would give me a new watch when they replace the battery.
 
My AW is scratched quite a bit. It is sign I am using it - swimming, running, gym, wearing while in workshop,... it has to show! When I will eventually replace it, it would be pity to throw away something which has not been used to its fullest.

Fairly careful with mine when I first buy it. After about 3-6 months (or until it gets its first scratch), then I’m a bit more risky with it. I work on my cars with my watch on (helps to check messages and such when I have greasy hands, and if somehow I get stuck under my car, I can call for help).

To be honest, it holds up very well, even with it getting banged up in an engine bay and smacked up against subframes. I’ve never cracked one, but I do have a coupe minor scratch’s on the screen. Nothing on the body.
 
Sometimes. A quick glance after bumping into anything harder than wood, otherwise if the lightning happens to be right to do it. I recently got my first 3 hairline scratches across the screen, which means I can stop caring so much. I knew it would happen because I am not too cautious about it, it’s a consumable tool after all, but I can do without deep groves and cracks.
 
I have damaged, including irreparably (well, parts were damaged that had to be replaced, not repaired), many watches over the years. My AW Ultra looks much as it did at purchase excepting very minor dings, the kind I need to obsess over to see. Happily, I don’t feel that need and also happily, this thing is a notable step up from the AW 5 I had before it.

Those straps (Trail Strap) wear out to a degree where I dislike wearing them. Perhaps I will get a titanium Milanese Loop although it’s not particularly elegant compared to the magnetic version on the stainless…

Pretty much never. I didn't even buy my watch new, got it pre-scratched so I didn't even have to think about it.

If it's on my wrist, it's getting bashed into things occasionally. No point in worrying about it.

Stainless steel will get micro scratches. I have a SS Series 6 and it has a few. I’ve never tried polishing them out though.

People deteriorate. You can’t take any of those shiny objects with you. If you’re lucky, you’ll have kids or grandkids that will appreciate them and if not, they just get sold off for money.

Absolutely no shame in getting help. The first time I needed help I was too embarrassed or proud to get it. It took someone to insist I get help. I’m glad that person did.
