Whenever I feel like it, actually. ;)

Macbook white almost a year, then 13" mbp for a year, followed by 15" mbp for less than a year before current 15" quadcore AG.

Mac Pro on the other hand, going strong since 2007. :)

Mac Pro is great.

MBP's once a year or pretty much every other refresh. I'm on my third in two years at the moment.
iMac's every two years.
Just got a Mini, don't see keeping it long.
MacPro the 1.1 I own is still going strong, although the Mountain Lion refresh not being available for it may make me rethink keeping it.

For me I make my living with my computer equipment so not only do I try to stay current but it's also a tax writeoff.

When I see that the upgrade will make my work easier. So far that's been every refresh for my notebook computers.

Every 5 or 6 years... Really, there is no reason to upgrade frequently because Apple has shifted their attention away from the Mac and to the iPhone, leaving their MBP line in the dust. My MBP from 2008 is not much worse than the late 2011 release- maybe better, because of my matte screen which is so much better than antiglare :)

Whenever it dies (has never happened, Windows or Mac) or whenever it can't do what I want.

My Late 2006 (2,1) MacBook still runs perfectly, but the 6 year old integrated awful graphics are killing me. I'm a moderate-serious gamer and have no been able to run recent games due to the graphics (currently stuck with Minecraft, League of Legends, handful of Steam games).

So this year I plan on upgrading my laptop to something new. I'll probably wait until Ivy Bridge is out and compare various Win/Mac options and go with what suits me best. I'll either get a gaming rig or laptop and keep the MacBook as maybe my media/download machine.

4-5 years. That's basically when it gets to the point that using it is just frustrating, but I've been using the laptop I have now for almost 3 years and it's getting slower, but other than that I can still see a couple of years left in it.

Had my black Macbook for 3 years until I dropped it and cracked the screen, replaced the screen then just sold it. Bought a MBP about 7 months ago, don't see myself upgrading for a while.

My first pc desktop lasted about 5 years, and it could've lasted longer..I ditched that and bought another hp desktop. this one is a bto model and pretty nice. its a little more than 6 months old. I'll probably upgrade it in about 4 years from now.

my hp laptop is about 3 or so years old and is now crapping out on me. I'm probably going to buy the 2012 macbook pros.

I'll update in the air update after this expected 2012 refresh. So roughly 2014 I guess. Current MBP will be 4 years old then. It still runs like a champ and is in pristine condition. As much as I'd love to upgrade all the time, there is simply no reason when this fulfils my needs and is working fine.

I usually do it once every three or four years but this current early 2011 15" MBP that I bought is a tad too big for my tastes. Contemplating selling it then buying a 13" Pro or Air whenever they are next refreshed. I want the Air's resolution with the Pro's ability to have 8GB's of RAM.

I usually wait until the new stuff is twice as fast as my current before upgrading. That gives me a good 6 year timeframe. My Mac Pro 2008 will get me another two years then I will probably get the latest iMac or equivalent

I got the g4/1.25ghz MDD that I'm typing this reply on in April of 2004. It's been my main computer since then. I also have a 2007 "white" Intel iMac and a 2010 MacBook Pro, but again, the g4 is my "main machine".

It's getting just a -little- old, though. May consider replacing it with a 2012 release Mini when they come out later this year....
