2 years, S cicle. I personally believe it is the best way. Non S variant are often just repackaged previous versions with a new design and some little candy, while the S always improves on the faults of the first and delivers next gen chip performance. Almost like the non S variants are beta versions and the S are the final release.

Ever since I signed my first contract in 2009 my nexus 6P and iPhone 6S are my 51 & 52 upgrade.

I handle 5 accounts in my family and they're happy with their phones so I use the upgrade.

Majority of my upgrades happened because of kijiji buy and sell. But the past year slowed down because if BLACKLISTING and had to get it from carriers/retail.

I always end up caving and getting a new one every year. I am always disappointed with the non S version. Hopefully I can resist when the 7 comes out.

I am on yearly now as my phone goes to my son and his phone goes to daughter in law. This way all phones are updated yearly.. Daughter in law has the oldest phone currently she has a 5S, my son has 6+ and I have 6S+..

Waiting to see how the apple upgrades that they announced works out. I think 2 years is far too long between upgrades technology moves on far too quickly . I used to be 12mnths they they made it 18mnths the 24mnths. Yes I realise that you can buy it sim free but I don't think that the networks look after you then.

Historically pretty much every year.

But I'm not sure when I'm going to upgrade next. I currently have the 6+. It's so good, I can't imagine how a subsequent phone could be so much better to make it worth the expense of buying it. I've held off buying the 6S+, despite Apple's claims that it's completely different.

I do wonder whether this is it now. Phones are as good as they're ever going to get. Thinner? Who cares. Lighter? Who cares? More pixels? Better camera? (How could it be?) Force touch? (Not bothered.)

I try to limit my Apple spending but generally don't do very well.

I upgrade every other year alternating between my iPad and iPhone. Upgrade my iMac every 3 years. And AppleTV on every release. However I might get the iPhone 7 because there was no new iPad plus I can sell my 6S for more.

New to yearly too...
Started with the 3GS, the 5, 6 and now 6s Plus..
With three lines in the family now they both know Mommy gets a the new iphone everytime it comes out!

Back when I was in my 20s, I would buy a new phone every year since 2008. Used android for the longest time till I switched to ios with the iphone 5s. Went 2 years and upgraded to the iphone 6s for the form factor and the fact my iphone 5s's battery went to complete garbage status. As I get older, I tend to just use things that work for me... and with life in general... spending money on a new phone just to keep up with technology just isn't going to fly. With the current flow of cell phone technology, I think we are finally hitting a stride where technology has matured and what we have right now will hopefully last as long as our personal computers at home. (I'm going on 6 years with my mbp).

I hope to use my iphone 6s for at least 3 years.

It's been every 2 years for me but this year I had the money to upgrade at the end of one year. I've always wanted to upgrade yearly as I've never been satisfied with the camera....until the 6. Now, the camera is so darn good that I didn't upgrade although I could. I'll probably get a 7 when they come out but I'm still lovin the 6.

Unfortunately I've been on the receiving end of poor QC in recent years from Apple - screen issues (backlight uniformity, yellow stains and colour shifts etc).

If I have these issues with my current phone, I will upgrade every year. If my phone has a great screen, I'll keep it for as long as I can as its a rare thing.

I never upgrade unless I'm forced to. Though new Apple products are sensationally tempting it's an awfully expensive habit to get into. I had an iPhone 4 and its performance gradually deteriorated from each OS iteration, until the performance on iOS 7 was so unusable that I bought an iPhone 5S. I'll continue to use this one until it's a laggy brick.

Real shame about that iPhone 4 because it was such a gorgeous phone, and it was like absolute butter on iOS 4.

Exact same situation here. First iPhone was the 3G which I lost in cab during my first week. I went back to my dumb phone for 2 years, then got the iPhone 4. Used that till it was too slow and got the 5S.

But right now, I'm thinking of getting a 6S just because I want wifi calling with AT&T. The signal in my house is pretty bad (just moved 6 months ago).

I can hear the marketing folks at Apple having a good chuckle!

My wife and I have the 5S. We'd like to hold out (if possible) until the iPhone 8 comes out, just to really get some longevity out of these devices.
