Used to be yearly. I had the 3G, 3GS, 4, 4S and 5.

For some reason the 5s didn't tempt me and the 6 was too big.

So I had to compromise. Smaller screen = android. Bigger screen and stick with iOS. Tried android. Hated it. Got a 6s. Still think it's too big but besides that I love everything about it.

I always buy my phones outright and circumstances have changed since I got the 5 and I can't afford to update yearly.

When they change again I'll probably go back to yearly but given how well the 5
Performed I'm happy enough to stick with the 6s for 2-3 years.

I do it every 2 years except once I skipped the 5 and got stuck on the S cycle. Have the 6S now and plan renewing my at&t unlimited contract as much as they allow. After they get rid of unlimited and subsides, I will push the upgrade to every 3 or 4 years. I only do one major iOS software update so they older phones stay fast incase I need a backup.

My wife and I upgrade every year when the new device launches. We are on AT&T Next 12.

When we upgrade, we get an improved phone, computer, still camera, video camera, GPS navigator, and music player. Given all the devices that the iPhone replaces, I don't feel bad about an annual upgrade.

Annually.

Until now, for the first time I bought our normal quantity of iPhones for everyone in the family. The reason I'm sticking with my iPhone 6 Plus is there's nothing I like about the new model.

Going forward I plan to use this 6 Plus until Apple makes it obsolete

Not really any rhyme or reason to my upgrade schedule. I started with the 3G then went to a 4 after a Windows Phone detour, but moved to the 4S secondhand after selling my 4 and kept that until this past February when I moved to my 6. I may move onto the 7 next year but my 6 is working so well to my liking it may be another 3+ years like before.
