Man I’m gonna sound like such an old man here but ‘back in my day’ i feel like the theater experience was much better. Am i crazy here or did it become a hell of a lot more common place for people to talk during movies? To constantly get up during movies? To be on their phones with the brightness of their screens up at full blast for everyone to see in a dark theater?
You're right. There is no doubt that in the pursuit of 'respecting' everyone, manners were lost. confusing as heck, but the same people that virtue signal will sit on their phone in a theater and act entitled to be rude. That's why I don't miss going to theaters at all. Do miss the popcorn. Maybe I should get one of those theater style poppers!
So just this past weekend I returned to the movie theater (twice!) after about a year. I mostly don’t go because I’m not a fan of the violent stuff and there just don’t seem to be enough Ferris Bueller type movies these days where they’re just fun and easy to watch. Too much dark and gritty for me.

My friends have commented about the disrespectful people too citing them as a reason for staying home. I’ve been lucky in that I very rarely have seen that kind of behavior. Maybe I just don’t notice them. 🤷🏻‍♂️

But I will say as much as I love AVP, it was refreshing to be in the theater again. It was the whole experience. The previews, the popcorn smell and just being there I guess. It felt like an event. I went with friends too so it was nice to do something with them other than just meeting for dinner and waving goodbye. Maybe it was the whole shared experience that I hadn’t realized how much I missed.

I still mostly use VP for looking at my own photos, panoramas and videos from trips. It still wows me pretty often with just how good it all looks.

Oddly enough I finally gave up going to the theater regularly because of an old couple. One of them straight up couldn’t hear so the other was loudly, and I mean loudly, repeating everything that was just sad on-screen so the other one could hear it.

WTF????? Between the teenagers that don’t shut up and sit down and the elderly who apparently weren’t any more mature, to the cost of tickets and snacks, I’d had my fill.

I’ve been to the theater about 6 - 8 times in the 13 years since I made that decision. I used to go so regularly I’d see a movie that I liked several times in the theaters before I’d snap it up on DVD / Blu-Ray.

I’d sometimes go twice a week in my 20’s. I’d see the new flicks on a Friday or Saturday night, occasionally on a Sunday if the theaters were sold out those evenings, and then go on Tuesdays when tickets were heavily discounted for movies that I liked after they’d been in theaters for a few weeks or to see films that I didn’t feel like seeing with a bigger crowd.

Most recently I’ve seen Killers of the Flower Moon (I want those 3 hours back …. what a let down) and Oppenheimer (a great flick but I love almost every Nolan movie I’ve seen) and that’s been it for the last few years.

I’m considering seeing Superman or potentially The Fantastic Four (depending on the reviews for each) but outside of seeing a special effects spectacle in IMAX or IMAX 3D, or something that has great written all over it like Oppenheimer did, I have no desire to go to the movies. I’ve got a Vision Pro and a 75” 4K TV with an AppleTV attached.

Seeing a flick at home is just a better all around experience and I can buy the movie for what it would cost for my wife and I to go to the movies and get popcorn and a couple of pops.

Outside of having to wait a few months to see a movie, there is little downside.

I feel this to my core. Might i suggest this. They included packets of liquid butter and they are so good. The concession savings alone from going to the movies might offset the cost of my Apple Vision Pro lol i usually spend like $50 between me and my wife when we go to movies. I got a hot dog steamer at home, make popcorn, have home nachos and nugget iced drinks. Home is perfect most of the time. Unless a special occasion makes us wanna go out

2 months?! I gotta ask my man. Why did you get them in the first place? What were your expectations?

Me? I expected to get a theater like experience at home anytime i wanted. I wanted to be able to watch 3d movies in immersive environments and maybe even do a little work with a giant screen. That’s it. I wanted that and i got…that.

So genuinely curious…did you expect something else when you bought them?

No, they are very cool - I guess it's mainly because it isolates me from family at home somewhat.

I'd like to play with them more - it's fabulous resolution.

I think I also mentioned that they are big heavy and unwieldy for long periods of time, but yah - It's just the facts.

I am not disappointed really - I'm happy to have them. If a new version comes out I'll be buying those immediately.

Mainly I have been discouraged with USDZ architectural drawings not working and crashing the whole OS. Apple doesn't seem to notice this? I dunno.

We had a great holiday and I did not take the Applecision with me, but we saw some cool ocean waves type stuff and I did remember to record it using the Spatial photo and Spatial video from iPhone 16 Pro Max. Woulda been cool to lug the Applevision to capture some of the cool things - but it takes some effort I guess - so I did not.

I have them here sitting by the lazyboy. No regrets.

Biggest thing I do not actually like about Applevision - (although I heard they maybe solved it?) - is that I want to share what I am seeing with another person.

This is a MAJOR hassle. I do NOT want to have to coach my friend on what to do or how to do it. I just want to be able to help them put it on, and not care about light intrusion or calibrations. Just put them on and see what I saw. But NOPE. You need to mirror the stupid Applevision to a device, and then somehow have that magic carry through as you put the goggles on your friend. It should "just work" but it's too complicated and frustrating to allow others to wear my Applevision.

If you have them I am pretty sure you will agree.

If I am missing something - I'd love to hear the solution for easy sharing with architect or assistants, or construction guys. It's just 90% sure to break with architect USDZ files right now - and even worse with the bad ways that you have to go through to share the Applevision experience with another person. Big Topic.

On the sharing thing, I’m a little confused because when i share them with my wife, she uses guest mode (with her prescription lenses) and when it asks me on my iPhone permission to let her use it, after i click yes it automatically airplays to the phone what she’s seeing. There’s also the option of AirPlay in it to a tv.

In the next big update if two people have Apple Vision Pros they can also see the same things in the same room as well. So if me and my wife had one, we could both feel like we’re in the same movie theater

I’ve used Guest Mode to let several people use my AVP since I got it soon after release. Some grasped the UI quickly after going through hand and eye setup, and there was little need for me to monitor what they were seeing.

But others had more difficulty navigating, so mirroring their experience on my device was necessary. Fortunately, it’s now possible to save their setup for repeated use.

Ideally, Apple would support multiple user accounts on one AVP, but I doubt that’s going to happen. In part, that’s because some people need add-on lenses to use it optimally, which would make sharing more challenging.

These days, I use my AVP for watching movies and videos when I’m alone or traveling. My wife and I prefer to watch movies at home on our TV - we haven’t been to a theater in years - mostly because of the added freedom and convenience.

(I also use my AVP’s Mac Virtual Display frequently for work. It’s made some tasks much easier. And, as I’ve noted in another thread, visionOS 26 beta has greatly improved my overall experience.)

Yup, if you have two Apple vision units that’s a different thing entirely and not what I’m referring to

I only have one

We are building a house and I have some USDZ export files from the architect.

At first, I couldn’t get them to work that was several months ago

Lately sometimes they will load, but maybe because they are too huge. They are crashing the entire operating system of the Apple vision.

Or when I do get them loaded, I’m having difficulty getting them aligned

But what I see is super cool. I have total immersion inside the sort of cartoon virtual reality of the house, which is neat and I would love to show some of the carpenter guys or just anybody. This is where the problems really start. I’m looking at something cool and people are like oh that looks cool. I wonder what it looks like and I’m like yeah I wanna share it with you. And I can do that but it’s like a 10 minute process or maybe five minutes but it seems like 10 minutes. I don’t have the patience for it to teach people things. I would like to be able to just take them off, not have to fiddle with buttons that I forget what they’re for give it over to a guy so they can slip it over their head. Adjust the straps maybe and then the way they go instantly, but it’s not like that at all - they have to deal with some set up issues and that’s kind of where the sharing is lacking

I’m probably not explaining it very well here, but I’m hoping you get the idea as a fellow owner of the Apple vision

I’m still a huge fan of Apple Vision Pro it’s just a pita to share with other people

Yes, although Guest Mode has improved, it's still a pain. I find that it's not that hard for most people to do the hand and eye training and understand the UI, but it takes time, and they get lost finding the content I want them to see, especially with Apple's immersive material. Mirroring to a device also hasn't worked consistently for me.

As a workaround, I've started to skip Guest Mode entirely. When I find something I want my wife to see, I just hand her the AVP and let her use my passcode. Of course, the eye scan doesn't work, but that's not too limiting for our use case. She's managed to do well with this despite not repeating the training. Ideally, Apple would support multiple user accounts, but I don't expect that.
