I have only used it to find out when the next game is for certain sports teams I am interested in.

To articulate why Siri isn't so convenient (outside of driving), seeing that I'm not alone in finding a good use for it. Personally I spend more time thinking about how to phrase something to get the desired search results than typing it in. That's probably easier with trial and error on a keyboard than it is going "uh, uh..."

I very rarely use Siri, and when I do, it's because I'm in my car driving.

Google assistant does it better.

I can't think of any use case for talking to my computer, when I'm using it. So I disabled both Siri and Cortana.

I very rarely use Siri on my iPad to set an alarm or cancel the alarm. It mostly works, although it clearly has trouble changing the alarm time.

I use Google voice a lot on my phone, it's gotten very good at speech recognition (almost flawless, really) and it's much faster than typing stuff on the phone. A lot of the time the Google knowledge graph also has the answer directly and can talk it back, so double useful.

I can't imagine what I could possibly gain from talking talking to my computer, unless I had no hands.

Never, siri only seem to work for americans, it never hears what i say in swedish, unless i speak very slow and over articulate and louder than normal speaking level

Its alot faster to just type it
C'mon, don't blame Siri, swedish is really hard to understand ;P

Never, and I just recently got an Echo so probably not going to use Siri in the foreseeable future

I think that's the point of this lively discussion. What is it that you plan to do with Echo? Basically the same idea, except on the computer. Curious how you feel it's different/better than Siri? Again, I only use Siri occasionally on my phone, but I too am interested how others use it on a MBP.

In my quest to utilize Siri more (to see if it helps), I said "play Cat Stevens wild world" which it dictated perfectly. But it starts playing Prince - The Ladder. WTF. This Siri experiment does not look promising.
I just tried on my IMac the same experiment (with different songs) and Siri has yet to play the correct one.

I didn't even try what it can do. I mean I did ask Siri a few questions right after I installed macOS Sierra, but I gave up after getting answers like ’I cant do that’.

Never. Hard for old dogs to learn new tricks and it just seems like more work to ask Siri to do something and then wait for "her" to do it than for me to just do it myself. Now if it could control HomeKit devices, different story.

Personally I already have one woman (she's lovely) in my life who only pretends to listen to most of what I say and when she does misinterprets 99% of it anyway. Who needs another?

My thoughts exactly

I can type faster than I can speak into my computer, then have to edit all the mistakes Siri makes. Plus talking to my computer is just awkward.

Uhhhh why? Serious question.

It's voice activated and always on.

The echo works great as an alarm, music etc..... even when using my Mac I will use my echo...it's a better experience .
[doublepost=1480574853][/doublepost]I gave up with Siri when I tried to ask any questions regarding the walking dead series debut (new season) and it responded to each question by pushing me to buying old content on iTunes, really pathetic user experience, my questions were just ignored .

To be honest, I have never been a fan of Siri in general. Though, I would say its best iteration so far is on MacOS - being able to search your Mac with Siri is nice.

The reason I prefer the Echo over Siri is the AI. Alexa is always listening, and so far I have not had a problem with it recognizing my voice/commands, even from another room. For me, Echo/Alexa is more useful than Siri because it acts as a decent sounding speaker, smart-home controller, timer and alarm - that is always on and listening.

Although by far, I think the best AI out of the bunch is Google's. Contexual AI is awesome (as well as being deeply integrated into the Google search engine), I wish Alexa had it.
