For some reason, Safari has started crashing more often (like the past 2-3 days). The screen's almost done loading, then the page turns black, Safari quits, and it goes back automatically to the main page. It never used to do this before, and it's becomming very frustrating now to use Safari.

I've had my iPhone for 9 days now and safari has has crashed about 4 times for me. I've had some ipod weirdness once or twice too. I actually use my iPhone for a lot of web browsing and I'm very happy with it even with 4 crashes.

hmm

I've had:D my iphone since 7/26/07 and have never had any crashes. i'm a heavy safari user, and never have any problems!

In my experience the iPod application crashes more than Safari on certain websites. Safari doesn't really crash right now much at all with the latest firmware. Playing music + using Safari can cause the iPod to crash and stop playing music on certain websites. However the iPod never crashes when used on it's own.

If I load a page with a lot of images, like an Ebay search, the iPod stops playing 5 out of 10 times.

Somebody didn't learn fraction reduction in school...

My iPhone has crashed maybe three or four times in the last two days. All but one music was playing in the backdrop, and iPod crashed while the page was loading, and on one of those times, Safari crashed after iPod crashed.

If you power the phone off, do you lose all your SMS conversations?

Easy fix for the Safari crashing: turn the phone off (press the top button for
3+ seconds untill it shuts down. Then power back up. That will fix it and a lot of other quirks you might be experience.

Safari was crashing like mad after the first week until I was told to try this. It never crashes now. Also my car's iPod adapter wasn't recognizing the iPhone for awhile. Turning off/on also fixed that issue.

Perhaps I'll try this. It certainly was extremely frustrating today when surfing several web sites. I had encountered at least 20 crashes going to various sites, such as Amazon, Target, Wal-Mart, yp.com, Google Maps, and my work Outlook Web Access.

Goodness I was steamed. But this workaround seems hopeful! :D

UPDATE - 9/18/07:
That worked!!!!
All day long I've used the iPhone and it hasn't crashed not one time.
Now that I know how to turn it off and back on again. :)

Same here it's a mystery other than clearing the cache. It's an every day thing

I'm sure it does crash, but I can't really recall it doing so.

Which tells me it doesn't happen often enough for me to care.

same problem here with my 3g iphone. safari crashes pretty much every time i use it about 3 to 4 web pages in. screen just turns black and then i'm back to the home screen... so frustrating.

2.0: rarely
2.0.1: at least once per day...usually 3-5 times. Very annoying.

I've also noticed Safari doesn't save cookies anymore...have to login every time to google reader. Oh yeah...google reader is no where near as good with the new version...it hangs and doesn't load pages a lot. Not sure if that's due to Safari or Google Reader though.
