8MB Nano.

Wow what will that thing hold? Two songs? lol

LOL...that's karma for you...yesterday I corrected my dad on the same thing:
Dad: Son, I'm having problems mailing this 750MB file.
Me: "Huh?...what the heck are you trying to mail?
Dad: "Just an old photo"
Me: Hmm...my largest photo is less than 10MB, what is this photo of?
Dad: "It's just an old photo that I found on an old floppy drive"
Me: Ohhh....ok, that would be 750KB then. OK.

With rumours of a new iPod potentially being announced tomorrow, I thought it'd be interesting to know how old some peoples pods are - i have a 2nd gen iPod 20GB (still going strong) which i got the first week they came out after my 1st gen click wheel model died.
Anyone else still using 1st or 2nd gen iPods?
I have a 1st gen 10GB model. Still works. Although the FW connector is getting loose.

I'm still very impressed by the quality of my 2G iPod. And i've had the recent opportunity to appreciate how good the iPod is (quality, and particularly the UI) after i was given an iRiver 6GB player. It's small n all, and has a tuner in it, but i'd never buy one. [that said, if anyone wants to buy it from me... :D ]

I have a 4G 40GB iPod. Got it October 2004. It died on the 27th December, I got the folder and exclamation mark screen. It wouldn't start up.
On the 4th January it started working again!:D

I need a new larger capacity one as I have 60GBs of music in my iTunes library with a lot more to go on from vinyl I need to convert and I download a minimum of 65 tracks a month too.

my 5G ipod video is a year old, almost to the day. my 2G ipod shuffle is a little more than two months old.

I have 20 gig 1st gen iPod (the size of a pack of cards, b&w screen) that I've had since 2002 and still use to this day! I'm amazed how long it has lasted. The new iPods are so much slimmer and better, I'm ready to get a new one.

1st gen was only available in 5 and 10GB i believe - you must have the 2nd gen (which was b&w too - released july 2002). I think they were built much more solidly then, but i also am ready for a new one...

Yes, you are right, it is a 2nd gen. The 1st gen had the moveable wheel, I believe, which was replaced with the touch-sensitive one in the 2nd gen.

yup. and the click wheel kinda sucked.

I bought my first iPod ever (2G Nano 2gb, it's mighty awesome!) just a couple of weeks ago, so I don't think I can compete with most of you guys :D .

I got my iPod Mini 2G the moment the Apple Store had them. Now I'm looking to update. Birthday+Xmas money puts disposable income to much more than the 80gb model.
I'm thinking of upgrading to the low/middle end of the next big iPod and buying one of them super brilliant little Shuffles for my adventures.

Another happy 3G iPod Owner here, mine's a 20GB which will be four years old in April and still going strong with only a few scratches to talk about.

My iPod is over two years old...got it in October of '04. It's a 4G 20 gig. It's still working better than ever. (scratches don't bother me, I don't case my iPod)

I have 2 first gen ipods a 5gb and 10gb, I also have a 10 gb 2nd gen all of which work flawlessly and I do use them I just always have one thats has a full charge.
I also have 3 3rd gen ipods and a 1st gen Nano....
But I would dump any of them and keep my earlier ipods I just love the way they feel much more solid than any of the new ones.:apple:

2G iPod Nano 2gb. I've had it for about one month. First iPod I've owned. it's awesome.

edit: maybe I shouldn't post so early in the morning. Just noticed I have already replied to this post...

Built to last

First Gen. 10GB with Scroll Wheel .. still going strong
4th Gen. iPod Photo 20 GB .. still going strong

i've got a 3rd gen 20GB at about 3.5 years that i rarely use.

on the other hand, i'm always using my 1.5 year old 1st gen 4GB nano. i'm likely going to replace this if/when Apple releases a larger capacity nano (10GB or more).

About 20 days.

iPodDeathClock - see how long your 'pod has left to live.:)

:D

I bought a 1st gen 5gb ipod here on the forums and I love it. It lasts forever with the battery that I bought for it on ebay.
