GREAT thread! I joined these forums because the amount of Apple TV information FAR surpasses my usual haunts (MacNN, Appleinsider).

You've got me hooked on organization. I'm on my 10th movie since starting 2 days ago. I've been using my MacMini an an attached 300gb drive as the repository and recruited my MBP this AM to hasten the efforts. I'm using Handbrake and the quality with ATV and my 50" Panasonic Plasma is outstanding.

MetaX has been AWESOME. Enters the description, Movie rating (g, pg, pg-13..etc), Actors, Artwork automagically, then imports it into iTunes.

Thanks for all the information.

If you're using the info that MetaX supplies, then you're on the path to organization indeed. Only when you seek out perfect art, or movie posters, will some say you have arrived.

Can anyone tell me why I can't get iTunes to sort TV Shows into shows and NOT separate the seasons into separate sections with separate art? All of my TV Shows have the same art and show name and everything, the only differences in the fields is the Season number and the episode name and number. Still, iTunes won't list all of a show under one heading and I see separate sortings for each season.

That's a new feature they introduced alongside the announcement of the Apple TV revisions. I don't know that there's a way to undo it, but most people prefer it this way. It allows for quick discernment of which season you're looking at and makes coverflow that much nicer. I do understand that it makes your list much longer (believe me), but I think that it's still worth it.

Here's mine, used doug's script for all of them, metax kind of ruined all of my movies... After writing the tags, the movie was just a black screen with a few popping noises...

Anyone know how i can add the age certificates without using metax?

hhmm i reckon im gonna wait for BR to become a more common thing before i start my collection.. i already have a collection of ****** quality downloaded movies (about 100gb) but its hardly worth the time nor effort to convert to mpeg and the quality is still not anything near good.. probably good for ipod.

I've gone back and forth on this, I have a few converted on my Apple TV but I too don't see the point for maxing out my HD space for a Movie I might watch at max twice a year, probably once. It makes more sense for TV shows that you may watch more often. I do have another Installation of Itunes on my PC where I have about 80 movies all ripped in Ipod Touch format, that makes sense to me to have a version for on the go.

i actually hadnt thought of that, whats the point of having it if i will only watch it only so often?? hhmm i might have to do some deleting!! thanks for that haha.

keeping those 80 movies in IPT format is a very good idea, at least until the IPT's are big enough to hold all of those movies. i have alot of movies for my ipod converted, but they all fit on so i dont keep a backup.

All my movies have artwork, actors, director, ratings and descriptions.

are these at iPod quality?

I actually don't have any movies at iPod quality. I convert my movies at about a 1400 bit rate. Does the iPhone handle those types of files? The range in size from about 900 MB to around 2 gig, expect for a couple of HD movies.

I just got on a HD kick and those files are averaging about 3.75 gig. I've only got about 10 HD movies converted, but hope to add tons more in the future (as hard drive prices continue to drop and they become more available).

I started out with a few HD movie at first, but the collection keeps on growing and my hard disk keeps on shrinking.

ah ok I was wondering how that many movies fit in that "little" space, the 1400 does it

yeah I've been doing the HD thing lately too and those 4gig moviesare killing my storage

Where are ya'll getting HD rips? From the high profile MKV's floating around the net(and re-encoding them) or doing it yourself (from either the actual hddvd/blue-ray or one from the net)?

Ipods play at pretty high specs now so I would try one of your encodes it should play. Problem is I have to come up with some sort of solution for storage. Right now I'm using a Mac Mini with 5 external Drives but I'm running out of USB and Firewire ports. I do have a USB hub attached that would allow for 4 more but I'm not sure if putting them on a powered hub would be good or not. I'm gonna have to come up with some sort of Hard Drive storage array, and I'm not tooo sure what's available on the Mac side of things.

You guys have inspired me to organize my iTunes movies. Yesterday they were just file named the name of the movie and that was it. Today, thanks to MetaX, they all have full information. I need to get me some HD movies.

I really didn't realize it was that little of space. I have a 37 inch LCD in my front room and a 32 inch LCD in my bedroom and all my movies look great on those TVs. I'm eyeballing a 60 inch plasma and I'm really concerned that my movies won't look so great on that. Hopefully, a affordable BluRay burner comes out and I can move as many movies as possible into HD. Costco here I come to get another external hard drive.

you own PHONE BOOTH??

wow, that was one of two movies i ever wanted to walk out on, but i couldn't bring myself to do it. the other was talladega nights.
