Ok, i just started ripping my movies (Since I just got my MBP a week ago). That's why I don't have such a huge list, but I'm getting there. I bet by the time I got them all ripped, I will probably have to start all over again, since everybody will be using blueray or so.

I use MacTheRipper or some evil Windows :( programm to rip my movies onto my harddrive, so I can have Handbrake encode several movies at once, while I'm at work or at school.

I use the AppleTV preset with enabled 2Pass (Turbo 1st). I always select 2 audio tracks, the German one (for watching them with my friends) and the English one. (Sometimes I enjoy the orginal voices, and some language passed jokes are better in the original language). I also try to keep on improving my Englisch. The 2 audio tracks work like a charm with iTunes, too.

Ok here are the screenshots. (Yay iTunes in German ^^)

PS: I have one more question, how do I rip a movie, using surround sound quality in Handbrake? And is it possile to play this movie with suround sound over my MBP speakers or my Creative 2.1 sound system? Probably a newbish question

Interesting, how do you select the correct audio track with apple tv, does it have support for that? Also, are you including subtitles in german?

As Newappleboy Said You Should Really Tag Your TV Shows And Movies And Have Artwork Then It Will Look Nice. Personally I Couldn't Live Looking At The Way You Have It At The Moment.

Well I haven't had much time and Metax or whatever gets annoying after a while.

I'm not sure how to take a TV show that I ripped and put it in TV shows in iTunes, I don't think it's possible.

I'm in the early stage right now, ripping every DVD in the house (just got another 300 gigs of space free). I'll worry about labeling properly later I just wanted to emphasize how much crap I got.

All movies and tv shows ripped at 2000 kbps in hanbrake into straight up .mp4.
Been holding out on the ATV because I'm not sure if I will be able to stream my movies from my computer about 1.75gb on average at 2000kbps over my wireless super g network which is rated at 108mbps.

Does any one have any insight about streaming over a G network and would care to put in their two cents on the subject.

One thing, you haven't converted from kbps to mbps yet. ;)

2000 kbps is only 2 mbps. Anything under about 20 mbps should stream reasonably well on a G network. An N network will still help over G though, as the additional throughput does help the ATV fill the initial buffer that much faster. In my setup, I get near-instant play when streaming.

How do you get that view? I see that when browsing movies on the apple tv but when I look at Itunes, I don't get that type of view. Sorry if this is a stupid question.

@ Mikenike192 You Have A Nice Collection And It's Nice To See Someone Else Like Futurama As Well As Me LoL.

@ Uva25 Go To View Then Click List View, Album View Or Coverflow View Depending On Which One You Want.

I thought I've tried all 3 and haven't seen the displayed format. List is just a list of names, the second option is a list with pictures and the third is the cover flow, not all the pictures laid out on one page. I'll try again.

You Want Album View For The Black Background One.

@Krevnik

Hey thanks for the info, because right now in my house my basement has a tv with my ps3 on which i use to watch movies (i have all my movies backed up .mp4's on dvds) so i just bring one of those down stairs or i just throw a movie on my thumbdrive, but Im thinking about dropping the $20 for medialink ps3 connect software so i can stream to my ps3 then also get an apple tv for my other room which i do most of my tv watching in so i can watch my tv shows.

i'm on my journey to 500 DVD rips in my house and i'm about 31 in so far.

31 takes about 50GB ranging from 1500kbps to 2000kbps encoding for MP4

so what do you all do for storage for your iTunes Lib's ?

31 - 50Gb
310 - 500GB
620 - 1000GB
and so on - TV Shows for me is around 80 GB so far - but i've got loads and loads of TV shows on DVD

What the hell am i going to do about storage in one place for all these ?

NAS ?

Don't forget you are going to want to back up that stuff. So DOUBLE your storage needs!

The view you're wanting is only available for movies, not TV shows.

If you are not using Handbrake 0.9.2 you should be, and if you are already using that version you should update the built in pre-sets. The :apple:TV pre-set will automatically encode any rip with both AC3 passthru and Dolby Pro Logic II audio tracks so the video can be played on just about any video device.

You can also install Perian so you can hear the sound on your MBP.

Michael

Just started about a week ago but it's slowly growing.

all the movies are ripped at 2500kbps. Battlestar Galactica is being ripped at 1500kbps, I haven't decided what to rip other TV shows at yet.

Everything is tagged by metax and all the chapters on the movies are named (One of the reasons it's taking so long).

I'm kinda OCD when it comes to organization on my computer so everything has to be perfect.
