Still have 23 left to encode and tag, then I have Der Untergang to rip :D (which BTW is amazing), also you should watch After Sex (2007) if you can as I found it quite amusing but it could just of been me:eek:

No I haven't. How do I do this? Thanks!

(EDIT) Well I found how to do it, but it's already listed as music and it won't let me change it anyways. It's a .mov file so I assume that's why it's listing it in the movie section. Frustrating!!

OK don't have a screen shot to show you but this is how I do my encodes:
  1. Get the original .m2ts/.mkv
  2. Open MediaInfo Mac
  3. Drag file to MediaInfo Mac
  4. Look for the bitrate the original .m2ts/.mkv is encoded at
  5. Get a calculator
  6. Divide the original bitrate by 2/3/4/5/6/7/8 (it depends what bitrate you are aiming for and what the original bitrate was)
    • Say I had a file at 27 340 Kbps, I would divided that by 8 to get 3 417 Kbps as that is what I want to encode it as, I could of done 6 and gotten 4 556 Kbps if I wanted a large file but 3 417 Kbps gave me 4.01GB as it was (and 4GB is quite a bit lol) so I when with that and it still looks great at the bitrate in 720p :D
  7. Get the number that shows on calculator and open HandBrake
  8. Add file to HandBrake
  9. Change settings to .mp4/.mkv, H.264 encoding, 2 pass at whatever the number on calculator was, Audio AC3/AAC 5.1 channels (both tracks as AC3 needs AAC to play apparently)
  10. Go to picture settings > set the res at 1280x528/720 (depends on source)
  11. Double check everything, do a test one first if needed
  12. Click add to queue or encode
  13. Wait until it is done, I do it at night so when I wake up it is done.
  14. Tag with MetaX and then add subtitles/chapters with Subler
  15. Add to iTunes

Thanks for posting all that info. Good Stuff in there.

How are you getting around the issue of having Handbrake crash when you load the mkv flle? Are you using the lastest svn version?

End of March Screenshots

Hey All:

I've been ploughing through my library getting it all up to date with all the information I want for each movie.

Most of the movies are SD that I've encoded from my DVD library, I've been a bit naughty and downloaded the 34 HD movies and transcoded them with VisualHub. They're 720p and stream to my Apple TV in the living room. The only contents I sync to the Apple TV are pictures from my various vacations

I have far too many play lists to do a screenshot for

Enjoy!

Here is my movies library:

Nice Collection!

Does anyone know what's going on with GetVideoArtwork.com today? As far as I know it was online yesterday, but today it's been down all day. I know the admins of the site frequent MR and often these types of threads, so maybe one of them can shed some light.

UPDATE 04/05/09: It has returned, with no mention in the forums of it's multiple day outage. Hmm.

My Movies and TV Shows.

All TV Shows are in HD, as are most of the movies (Lots more to rip :()

Simple, nothing fancy :)

they do look great dont they! its some sort of GUI modification to the Finder and the Dock.

Kardashian, or anyone. How do you make those fancy windows? They look great.

Well thanks guys :)

Basically, if you want a 'borderless' window, just press the 'pill' button on the top right of the window frame, and it removes the frame and sidebar, leaving a clean, simple window. Especially effective when you want to show off weeks (I'm not kidding) worth of ripping, and hours creating the perfect DVD cases!

Secondly, if you mean the shelving the covers are 'sitting' on, this is a simple background image. Apple key and J to bring up View options, and on the bottom you have an option to choose a background. Search the Googlewebs for "Finder backgrounds" and you'll get lots to choose from ;)

Lastly, the DVD cases and CD cases (used to seperate the Seasons of the TV shows) can be found on DeviantArt. Then its the task of hunting down HQ covers and artwork, and turning them into icons.

Phew, think thats all of it.

And yes, the dock is modded as well, but that has nothing to do with the window shape :)

Come to think of it, I don't think there's any original Apple GUI left on my MacBook Pro :p

I like it though, its clean :)

Ok I have around 240 ripped to my library and about 200 or more to go lol My brother in law buys them on a consistent basis.

The TV shows is just the King of Queens. I bought that last year and it took me a good month to do 9 seasons worth of ripping into iTunes.

Its funny looking at other people's library, you see the movies you already have ripped and the ones you still need to do.

I think we should all put $5 in a pot, buy a huge hard drive and share it between us, it would save hours of ripping ;0)

my lord that collection is INCREDIBLE!!!!!! how do you store them all??

I have a raid card connected to an external enclosure with SAS cables. There are 8 1TB drives in a raid 50 yielding 5.46TB. I posted in the out of control storage solutions thread also. Sadly I need to upgrade soon. I only have 1 TB free right now.

Any more specs? That's crazy, you have over a years worth of video. Have you watched everything?

interesting. in a few years i will be looking for a nice (and massive) backup sysem - once i finish uni and get some money! i currently have 3x1tb, 2x500gb for storing everything but nowhere to back them up!! ive been looking at RAIDs and whatnot, speed is not that important to me really but as long as i have two copies on two different disks then i will be happy :)

you should think of upping them puppies to 2tb drives :):)

what kind of read/write speeds do you get from them??

I have a highpoint rocket raid. Model 2322 (I think,, I need to look again).
Enhance tech 8 bay external SAS enclosure with 8 1TB seagates. MacPro 3.0 x 2, 8 core, 9 gig ram. 2-7300 video cards 2-24 inch BenQ lcd. 4 seagate 300 GB single platter drives in a raid 0 scratch disk. I am unsure of the read/write speed of the external raid 50. It is only for iTunes. It plays fine and copies fast to it from scratch disk. I think I answered all the questions.
Oh I dont know about 2TB drives. I think my next step is more then 8 drives. I think my next step will a raid that supports raid 6 and SAS extenders. Probably 16 bay enclosures. I say this because I have 9 old 750 Gb seagates from my last expansion.

That seems like so much work...
I rather sleep. lol But I've spent about 1 week so far on my system and I'm not even half-way done with mine. I finished my music I believe which is over 1,600 which I know isn't impressive for music. I only have 21 movies on my computer. I gotta fix that up next. I got like 50 movies on my external right now. I gotta figure a way to add Scrubs Season 1 to the TV show section of iTunes and find a way to rip Season 2 because the DVDs are set up funny. Anyone got a way to rip it? The chapters are set up differently than Season 1. Booo...

But my setup is in trouble right now. I have less than 10GB left on my MacBook. I have no clue why. I gave 50GB to my windows side leaving me 100GB left on my Mac side. I have to have windows so I can "program"
Btw, I have a 500GB external for my music and movies and TV shows (Scrubs!)

I learned something new! Thanks Kardashian.

I've Decided that the trade off for Convienience to Upgrade costs vs How much you are actually gonna watch the Shows and Movies just does'nt justify it. Add to that that no mater how well you encode it, unless it's lossless it looks better upconverted from a good player. So I've decided I'm encoding for my portables only, I tend to watch more stuff that way vs on my TV.
