I've Jailbroken my iPhone 4 once then restored it but am looking back into Jailbreaking it again, simply for more customization on my iPhone 4. How safe is Jailbreaking? What are the risks in doing so?

If you follow instructions nothing bad will happen. If anything does go bad, then just restore. Jailbreaking hasn't bricked iPhones... its unlocking that does it. But since you are looking for customization... nothing bad will happen.

Yeah, I'm not worried about the instillation but rather in the long term, am I going to be more prone to Malware, people locating my device etc etc?

In general you will be safe. The jailbreak community is fast in terms of closing security holes. Apple takes a month or so (unless its very critical) to issue an update to close security vulnerabilities.

Moreover, the jailbreak community is always on constant watch for malware sites. Cydia itself has a list of websites and will warn you when you add a repo or source that is known for malware.

Just use common sense when it comes to apps. Check reviews for apps online before downloading if you fear malware that much. There is always people talking about jailbreak apps.

Well, now that you mention it... Cydia (rather Installer) is the original App Store...

If you're not planning to download apps from Cydia, then why are you jailbreaking your phone?

Apple didn't have an App Store when the first iPhone came out. The jailbreak community has been around since iPhone OS 1.0.0

Back then, the way to get apps was via Installer. Later became Cydia during the iPhone OS 2.0.0 update.

You can't customize without installing needed packages from cydia.
Doesn't sound like you're ready to jb. Read up and research more on it.

No, what I mean is that I will NOT be downloading games/apps such as Tiny Wings from Cydia, I'll download them from the original app store from Apple. I'm not a cheap scape, I pay for my games.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think Cydia is about cracked apps.

I don't think it is, but you can get cracked apps on it, I'm pretty sure.

No you can't. There is another portal like Cydia used for that...

No offense, but you're all over the place.. and I think you're missing the point. Customization tweaks require software that is downloaded from Cydia.

I guess the question to ask is, how are you planning to customize your phone without using cydia?

I never said I wasn't going to use Cydia did I?, I'll be using it to get my widgets and tweaks and that's all.

You don't seem to know enough to JB. Do more readings or else don't do it cause you will end up crying for mistakes you do.

I think what people r saying is that Cydia is Cydia whether you're downloading tweaks or games
