Ugh, I'm too upset to even type this out again so I'll just copy/paste what I put from another thread...

W-O-W.
Can I say this keynoted...

SUCKED

I mean DRM free iTunes music is cool, but the other stuff doesn't really effect me since I don't have a Mac. I was going to get one but since there isn't a new Mac mini (well you can guess the rest)...

im just glad these iphone nano rumors will stop... I hope.

I'm sorry, but that won't happen for awhile. These rumors are about as old as the iPhone themselves.

I find the lack of respect for customers by having a keynote and not even making a public announcement about the state of push notification when it's over four months late to be quite staggering.

That's the Apple way. It's why we never hear about major bus acknowledgements or future plans. They are always quiet.

They know they made a mistake in saying it would be out in September. Last I heard, it was delayed because in their trials, it was a huge memory hog and made the iPhone practically unusable.

From what I'm watching right now, I'd say an 8, but then again I wasn't dying for a new product because the one I WAS dying for was released in october.

But man, the new iphoto is cool:D

That's good for you because you have a Mac. I was going to get a Mac mini but I guess not. :(

I gave it a three because the DRM free iTunes is cool and the new iLife '09 will be good for me when I finally get a Mac once the mini is refreshed.

I really want to know who in their right mind gave it a ten!

And it's why I won't buy any Apple computers. I wouldn't trust my computing requirements to such a transparently moronic attitude.

No, they didn't make a mistake announcing it in September. They made a mistake by managing the iPhone development team badly so things have never moved at anything more than glacial, and then by not telling customers that the notifications were behind schedule or keeping them informed.

I gave it a 10 for two reasons, and because I figured that this keynotes would not have anything to do with hardware. Primarily, I gave it a 10 because Apple announced DRM free music, which will have a wide range of consequences and to my mind is a really big deal, although some people might not appreciate the implications of it. I also thought the software showcased was interesting, and I liked how Apple is working on convergence software solutions, like photo albums with geotagging that is connected to Facebook. I thought that was a really interesting and basically untapped well of information sharing, so good on Apple for exploring that route. I also have high expectations for the future of Apple's approach to converging technologies, and I think that it's going to have a wide range of consequences (good and bad) on the software industry on the whole. So for those reasons I gave it a 10. Also, I was satisfied in that there was no mention of the stupid nano rumor, although that didn't have anything to do with my rating.

So, is that a good enough reason for you?

They removed the APIs from the SDK, leaving developers without explanations.

Never heard or seen anything about a hog, do you have sources? i would like to read that.

I have no idea why people are getting so excited about DRM-free music. Man, it like the wheel was friggin announced. Well, here's an announcement: DRM-free music was already available. This is nothing new.

There was a time not too long ago when people actually bought these plastic things called compact discs. These contained lossless files of the highest quality. And if you think these are obsolete and you prefer a lower quality of musical sound, then fine, you could have bought your lossy DRM-free songs from Amazon. God only knows why you chose one mega-corporation over another - Amazon sells the exact same song, but sometimes at a cheaper price.

Myself, I have never bought a song of iTune$ nor from Amazon and likely never will. I want lossless music if I'm going to be paying similar prices. If if I do buy a digital download, I will buy it directly from the artist (see: Nine Inch Nails, Radiohead, Saul Williams, etc.).

Take that away from the Keynote and we got small software bumps and a new laptop 95% of the world's population cannot afford.

Hoping for an updated Mac mini or iMac like me?

I exlusively use laptops, seeing as I will be in college. A desktop maybe once I have a steady income.

All I wanted to happen was an aluminum macbook, which did (months ago) and Im extremely happy about.

The waiting is purely for funds.

Hah. Nice topical reference.

Seriously though, I was quite disappointed by this Macworld. I don't buy anything from iTunes anyway, so I don't care about being able to download music over my 3g connection now. Don't care about the 17". And I don't use iLife. I was hoping to see new Mac Mini's so bad so I could add one to my home entertainment center. I was hoping the current models would be available for cheaper, but I guess I'll have to wait longer. Eventually they'll be offered for closeout prices, even if it's discontinued.

Sorry. My Life On the D List was on yesterday...:D

I too am disappointed by the lack of anything related to the Mac Mini or other sizes of Cinema Displays.

Isn't AAC near cd quality?

I was hoping for a mini update myself. and seeing some new imacs would have sweetened the deal. anyone know for sure when they come out?

Not by my book. Put a 128 Kbps AAC on a quality stereo and you'll hear a difference. But, yes, Apple does try to sell us that a 128 kbps AAC is as good as a 192 kbps MPEG. But, my ears disagree. And I don't even consider myself an audiophil.

I don't even trust regular mp3s dl'd over the Internet anymore because they're likely transcodes from a lower bitrate. Nowadays, with storage capacity so high and cheap, we can afford to have FLACs on our HDs. And when I compress, I do it myself from a WAV to a 320 Kbps CBR.

I always find it interesting that technology is supposed to increase quality, but technology has the quality of our music going in reverse. I think this is just a general reflection of today's society where quantity is preferred over quality.

I watched the keynote and recall seeing 256 kbps.

And to the underlined, the majority of digital music is in mp3 format, which strips away the subtle things you cannot "really" perceive. No one really tells the difference especially considering the majority of people use the craptastic earbuds that come with their players.

And you may not think you are an audiophile, but it kinda seems like you are a bit of one. Maybe this just isnt for you, seeing as not everyone can be pleased 100%
