No scratches on my 11 so far after three months of ownership. I have a glass screen protector and case on it so unless I have a really bad fall (like I did with my 7 which led to me getting the 11) I think it should stay without scratches for a while.

My Xs stayed without a scratch for a year never had a screen protector but always had a case.
Recently though from nowhere I have noticed very faint couple of hairline scratches on the phone, I haven’t really done anything different either.
Since that I decided to put a screen protector on.
Can’t see the scratches at all though unless under a very bright light at a certain angle.
I think screen must get weaker with time as the oleophobic coating slowly is removed.

Zero scratches. I use a case ‘hard case’ for work, I also have two leather portfolio cases that I use for commuting, otherwise when I’m at home, I use the phone completely as it is outside the box and I have no scratches whatsoever.

Same here, my iPhones are pretty flawless because I keep them in a case and USUALLY use a tempered glass screen protector (just so I can hold it with my keys / set it down without worrying about it). Always wanted to use my phone nekkid but never had the courage to do so.
Maybe someday when I’m wearing a suit and tie everyday (never).

My precious 6 month old iPhone 8 has no scratches. The 8's glass back is beautiful but super slippery so unfortunately a case is mandatory. I have a dollar store case which is thin and grippy and protects back/sides from scratches, but very little drop protection.
I'm thinking of getting a good folio type case such as Otterbox Strada for better protection in the warmer months when I don't wear a jacket which has secure pockets.
Ah the good old flip phone days. They were cheap, small, and sturdy, no case required!

Put the thing in a goddam case like it should be then there’s no problem, had many phones 2 to 3 years old that looked brand new., not a single mark or scratch.

I got a certified preowned XS Max from my carrier last month, such a good deal. 632 USD for the 256 in space grey. It spent its first two weeks case less as I waited for my mous case to arrive from what I thought was the states.. I didn’t drop it once. Now that it’s in a case it’s fallen out of my pocket and I dropped it. It’s fine though. I did buy AppleCare the other day just in case. I figured it would be good for a battery or front/back glass. Bring it in once a year for a cleaning and a tuneup. My second iPhone 7 had the mics die again so FaceTime was impossible and phone calls were iffy again as well. Just found out about that lawsuit today from this site. It’s the only iPhone I had that caused me problems.
Just a small bit of advice, when you attempt to polish out the scratches, don’t let the paste/polishing cloth come in contact with the display, not also will scratch it, but it will strip the Oleophobic coating on the display, also causing a ‘rainbow Like’ distortion.
